I understand that the C5 Z06 windshield is thinner than the base C5, but does anybody have a factual weight of each windshield?

If we're talking 1 or 2 lbs, might not be worth the effort and expense if paying out of pocket.

I here stories for people installing the Reg. glass in a Z and trim does not want to fit right .. I have seen some stories in the forum about fit ..Just saying .. I understand the trim is a bear to get right anyway .. I would but back what came out .. That's just me ..

who's making them?

GM has been out of the 4.8m AP glass for nearly 10 years

And the HUD worked exactly the same as it did with the original Z06 glass with the new Safelight glass.....so no worries there either....

I just went through this with my 02 Z, windsheild got busted, I bought a super clean used glass out of a 04Z (as I couldn't find any new ones any were, and Aftermarket glass is wavey junk) it was OEM glass but not as thin as my 4.8mm, didn't realize untill I got home and got the broken glass cut out I realized the newer Z glass was thicker.
. And for who ever cares it's 6lbs differnece. And the glass has the 4.8mm on it at the bottom center under the cowl cover.

I've read 2.5, but OK, even better. My windshield has an imprint PS lower corner.

to the OP ...there is no real point in installing a OEM Z06 HUD windshield in the car, unless you are tracking the car and that lil bit of weight is worth it..then yes go for it...but if you main goal's are to drive it on the street i would go with the C5 HUD windshield all day long...

4.8mm is 3/16'' of a inch...99.9% of all car's on the road, windshield's are usually 1/4'' thick...so really not the much of a difference imo..

I replaced 03 Z06 windshield with non Z06 windshield at about 1/3 cost and HUD works as well as before.
A friend has a body shop and he got me prices on Z06 glass vs non Z06.
Huge difference in price.
He was reluctant to go with non-Z06 glass.
He was more surprised then me that the HUD worked perfectly
