Default Z06 glass

Now that I have decided to keep my 01 Z06, I am looking into replacing some of the glass. Windshield has some road rash but no cracks and I want to replace it. If I remember correctly, this glass is lighter than regular C5 glass. Am I going to find this or will I have to go to the C5 glass when I go to one of the shops like Safelite in Cincinnati? I also will replace the passenger door glass which has some scratches. Do these shops have tinted glass like the original?. Thanks for any help Want to keep the car as close to original if I can.

I wouldn't go to safelite, they manufacture their own glass and many have said it's not good quality. Find a local dealer that uses NAGS glass and it's part number DW1430. That's a non hud z06 windshield. I just had mine replaced at $330 installed after tax

I wouldn't think the windshield is any different for (obvious) safety concerns.

Default glass

I thought the original Z06 windshields were much lighter weight I think in part to keep the car over 300 lbs lighter than the coupes. I think I remember reading that somewhere but I'm old so maybe I didn't!!!!!

You are correct, the Z windshield is thinner (and thus a bit lighter, not much) than the base model.

Dw1514 I believe but it's a total waste of money. It's like $900 I think and a non hud windshield works perfectly fine with hud. It's just a way to get you to spend more money.

I had Safelite do my windshield and the new glass was perfect. They also on their website have a difference between C5 Coupe and Z06. I don't know if the glass is any different but I was very impressed with the service and the glass. They also work per a documented process.

Ok so I did some research and the best info I could find is that the reason the 01 glass is "lighter" is lack of the HUD coating/layer/whatever. And the weight difference comes out to a whopping 2lbs!

If it was my money, i'd get the cheapest GM replacement available. Who gives a crap about 2lbs?

All Z06 cars have a thinner glass at 4.8mm. I don't know the thickness of a coupe glass. The hud glass has a "special" film to reflect the hud better. But many have said including myself there is no noticeable difference. 01 cars are just non hud since it was not available. 02-04 cars can get a non hud or a hud glass because the cars came with it.

I'd still insist on one if an insurance claim was being made.

Yeah thanks...I already established that. And again it's more like 130lbs. So take a dump before driving your car if it's that big a deal to you lol

AP Glass DW 1430 43R-008008 E-6 Flo-light .. Not sure this is the right number for the hud or non hud is one or the other a good place to start and I don't think anybody makes one but A&P Glass well GM arm and a leg.. I can get one installed non hud in Houston for $400. and HUD for $600.00 . AP makes the right glass for the Z need the 4.8MM .There is a tread on here somewhere with all the right info .. I checked the part number and is the right one..

Default Glass

Thanks everyone. The o1's( at least the early ones) were not HUD I've looked at a friends car who had Safe-lite install his and have decided to go the same way $498 for both windshield and the passenger door glass- tinted as original

unless you MUST HAVE z06 glass, just get regular c5 glass.

you'll be fine, and it'll save you a nice penny.

I just had my 02 Z windshield replaced as a rock hit it, it was an insurance claim so I made sure I got the original windsheild put back in. The bill was $770 installed and that's the lighter windshield with the HUD.

Thought others have recently got them also. Like I said, if it were under insurance (which mine would be) I'd insist on a 4.8mm unit if at all possible. Why not.
