z06 tires sizes: alternatives
are there other sizes i can safely run on the stock rims? For 265/40/17 there are so few choices. But if i go to 255 or 275, there are a lot more choices. Same issue for the rear. Thoughts about this? Thanks all.

Some guys run 255's up front and say they fit well. I'm running NT05's in 275/40/17's they fit and handle great, run stock size in the rear. Some people also run 285's, 305's or 315's in the rear.

I've run several different tires in 275/40/17 sizes up front and 305/35/18 rear. All of them have fit well with one exception. The Toyo R888 tires are actually manufactured one size wider than most other manufacturers. So, the 275 front and 305 rear are a little wide on the OEM wheels. They still fit great and wear appropriately, but wide enough that they sit outside the fenders about 1/8" or so. They really are a 285 and 315 size tire.

I've got a C5 Z06 for the track (although I do drive it on the streets too) and I've got a C5 convertible for the street. I went to 18" all around on both cars. I think having same sizes all around reduces overall cost by being able to rotate my tires all around and not having to dick around with different sizes front & rear. I went to 295 x 35 x 18's on both cars. Running sames wheels and tires on both sort of makes my street car a back up tire car for my track car. Plus this way gives me more flexibility of rotating tires between the 2 cars.
Not sure if this helps you any. I was never a fan of staggered tire sizes on any of my cars. I own Nissan Z, Porsche, just sold my v8 Miata(mistake selling it). Had 4 square set ups on all these cars.

Maxxis posted on facebook new sizes for 2017. 255/40/17 285/35/18 should be available soon in VR-1....maybe a good RS3 alternative, depending on price.

Just did my annual removal for cleaning and inspection on my Z16; GY Eagle F1 GS-D3s...they are nearing end of life as rubber is getting hard but wear is holding great. Have about 20K miles on them over 5 years...wish I could drive her more! Running 295/35ZR18 rears and 275/40ZR17 fronts. Few options even back then when I replaced the OEM. Happy with the D3s but always follow these threads...I'm one flat away from having to replace at all four corners!

The 275/40s were no longer available, so I opted for 255/40s today ... we'll see how that works out. 295/35s are available now. I have DWs on my 91 ZR-1 and am really pleased with them.
I recently bought a 04 Z16 with 18k miles from the original owner ... original tires too and they break loose at 50 MPH in second ... they gotta go.

I run a set of General Exclaim UHP on my car since 2009: 275/40R17 front and 295/35R18 rear. My experience is:
- More grip on turn-in
- Less steering precision
- Front tires stick out of the wheel wells by about 1/8"

if you stay OE the pickins get more slim every year. the nt05 was a go-to but they have been hard to find this past year. i have read more than one post talking about waits

I will most likely go with the rs3's come spring. I have found they run pretty wide. The 255/40/17 is actually almost identical width of the 275/40/17 nt05. And the 285/35/18 rs3 is actually a few mm wider then the 295/35/18 nt05.
