Default If you have a shorty antenna, come inside!!

I'm about the pull the trigger on a shorty antenna for my 03' Z. I've been looking around and read everything from cutting the stock skyscraper and the aftermarket antennas.

What antenna's do you guys have an how is the reception? Just want some user opinions/reviews before I pick one up.

Thanks guys!

Switched to a shorty - didn't notice a drop in reception with stock radio - since switched to aftermarket and still seem pretty good. Do it! Looks way better

I'm close to the city, but closer to the country. Eventually I would like to get my center console hooked up for a double din deck and put in a head unit I can play MP3's on. But either way, I still need to get rid of this crazy long antenna. My Z is stock!! Gonna lower it, tint the windows, put the short antenna on and that should significantly improve the look.

Which shorty did you go with? I have looked at two different ones that I liked.. one was $25 the other was $20

Got mine from Craven Speed. Reception is OK in my small city, I do think it was better with the big factory mast. Don't really care though, very rare I have the stereo on.

I got the Craven Speed too. It works just fine in the city. Works ok also when I drive 50 out of town. Any further than that then I need to switch to the local stations wherever I'm at. I actually like the stock one. Only reason I got this one was my car came with a cut down one when I bought it.

If you like the factory unit, there's probably many out there cheap.

Hey it's good to see other CravenSpeed owners. If you take a look at Amazon the photos are from when I ordered their first C5 shorty, they weren't sure it would fit but it did and now they offer it as a normal product.

I haven't had a single issue with reception, though like someone mentioned as I head out of town I'll need to search for a different local station, but that was about the same when I had the stocker on.

I installed a shorty as one of my first mods, reception in my area was pretty bad with the stock antenna and the shorty. I added an iPhone adapter though and music sounds great that way.

I have a '03 Z as well and a have a shorty (15" or so) antenna and have not noticed any difference in reception. For the last 40 years or so I have always had an orange "76" ball on my antennas. Since owning this Vette I have noticed that other drivers don't see me as well when driving and maybe the taller antenna with the ball on it may help me from getting hit. Just a thought, a lot of crazy drivers nowadays! Save the wave.

I did notice some drop in reception but local channels seem to be fine.

in my area, a shorty ruined reception. radio's all but useless unless in major metro area with strong signals.

the tall antennae is just so hideous looking i deal with it.

besides, motor & exhaust is beautiful music.

I get literally ONE fm station perfectly clear in mine and that's because they broadcast about 12 miles from me. Anything beyond that isn't very clear. It was pretty similar when I had the stock two foot antenna, lol. That's ok, after adding LT's, VR and a tune I enjoy the engine music more.

Hmm, for $25 I may have to try switching to that one. Forgot what brand my stubby is but I know the reception sucks....

They were an option so there should be a plug to hook it up to. I installed one years ago on a 97 z28 that came with a fixed mast and it was an easy install.

Haha yup that's my car. So ya the CravenSpeed is def more attractive imo than other offerings, plus it's all aluminum, not sure what the others are made from.
