Is anyone else amazed at how well C5Z performance has held up over time?
Out of curiosity today, I looked up the 1/4-mile fast list for the 2015+ Mustang GT (http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16739) and compared it to ours.
Bone stock comparison:
C5Z top times are primarily in the high 11's to low 12's, whereas the Mustang is in the mid to high 12's.
External bolt-ons comparison:
Both cars have top times primarily in the low to mid 11's.
It's kinda crazy to me that our 15 year-old Corvette can still beat or keep up with a modern V8 Mustang in a straight line (obviously it would be a different story up against a GT500 or GT350). I think this speaks to the amazing performance bang-for-buck that the C5Z offers, as well as what a difference of 600 lbs in curb weight can make.

Related commentary and question:
A stock C5Z with no upgrades aside from tires and brake pads is capable of some serious lap times. Are there any other cars out there that can be purchased for less than $25k and stand a chance of keeping up with the C5Z around a race track with so few mods?
Assuming equal drivers, of course.

I have been following the HP wars too. During my LS6 build I have been wanting to keep up with today's cars. With mods we can keep up with some of the Shelby's and Roush's.
They got the supercharger so...

amazing
The most amazing thing about the C5Z is how ferocious it is on the track. No matter what the high end car, if it's not being pushed, it will find itself being passed by the C5Z, especially if the Z06 has some mods.

I ran a gt 350 a few months ago from about 70-130 and put a car length on him and was still pulling. Might have been a bad driver not real familiar with the cars. I looked them up they have about 520 hp. But 1/4 times are in the 12's.

Yup I've been thinking the same thing the last few years, they are really an incredible performance car for under $25k. With minor boltons they can push close too 400whp and be a solid high 11 sec car too, and extremely competitive on a road course. Pretty awesome machines for the $.

All this self love is warm and cuddly, but everything's relative. Put enough mods on the Mustang, Focus, or F150, and you can beat a C5Z. Of course, none of the above mentioned can do that and still get over 25 mpg.

Its a light car with plenty of power stock. Today's cars are a lot heavier even though they make more power. It is hard now days to build a light sports car with a lot of HPs and not have 100s of safety features. Cars are getting bigger and much safer now days.

This car amazes me every day! one of the best cars ever made.. just with the clutch wasn't such a garbage POS. Other than the clutch, this car rocks!!!

Haha... more like 8250 rpm. That's still pretty awesome for a V8 though - and they sound amazing with that flat plane crank. It's the first Ford to genuinely catch my interest since the 2005-06 GT.

My car is still stock. I just got it in April. The PO had done some suspension work. T1 shocks springs end links and brakes. As far as power as far as I know it had a loud *** catback I took off and put the stock TI setup back on.
