I just bought a set of Toyo R888's

275/40/17 Front
and
305/35/18 Rear

Mainly for track use but the car is still street legal.

which toyo? the t1s which is apparently back in production? that tire will liquidate an re760 in dry and rain

the ps2 is not available in the same compound front and rear anymore. the rears are all a porsche compound making them a mismatch for us

the nt05 and t1s are the 2 i would consider, t1s if you drive rain, nt05 if it's all 98% dry above 70deg. for most people the t1s would be the better tire.

the DW can work but the 255 front actually looks better, porky puffy tires with a soft sidewall. good rain compound and a good treadlife but rather unexciting

if i had to chose a tire on that list for regular driving it would be the t1s. it's almost as good as an nt05 in the dry, much better in the wet and was similar to the ps2 now that i think about it in overall performance

you guys should be celebrating toyo for doing this. there is finally a real 3 season choice for stock wheels that does not lose anything to the OE supercar and gains in a few places like wet and traction fall off

I had the T1's they were great on wet roads and even better on dry. The Michelins have broke loose while getting on the hwy in 3rd gear doing about 70 mph

I have NT05's on my M3 and on the rear of my previous Z06 and never had an issue with rain and we set a new record for rain last year. Same with low temps down to the teens, only issue I ever had was 2 weeks ago we got 10" of snow and the M3 could not climb the hill my huge house sits on.....partly due to no traction and also cause the nose is 3.5" off the ground and it was pushing snow...

I like the GOOD YEAR Super Car Tires in the factory sizes.
they look right and feel right.

I believe most people compare there... old worn high mile original Good Year tire to the brand new "whatever brand" tire, and say they are so much better than the good year super car.

anything new will feel better at first but in the end

you get what you pay for

I like the idea of putting the same 200 tread wear tire. it has excellent dry traction & cornering grip.

the way the gm corvette engineers intended

but if driving 55 in the right lane is what you want buy whatever is on sale

If weight/rotational inertia is important to you you'll want the Michelins. Some of those tires listed are very heavy. The PS2 is an outstanding tire on our car....IMO you get what you pay for.

biggest problem with these was traction fall off. after as little as 12 months grip was down from new and by 18 months it was really noticeable. when new this was a good dry warm tire but it aged terrible which is a big part of why people went to the ps2. it was as good in the dry, better in the wet and had a far more gradual falloff still performing well by year 3

the ps2 isn't available in the correct compounds anymore out back but the t1s apparently is. it's a more predictable tire that might give up a smidge new dry to a supercar but it ages much better, kills it in the wet and is more predictable

the nitto nt05 also was a better choice it was slightly quicker than a supercar in the dry, they are both terrible in the wet and while the supercar in theory could go more miles that traction fall off just killed them. i distinctly remember driving a new car in 01 and one with 8k miles on it in 02 and my god, it was like two different tires. the supercar just aged terrible

So 255/40/17 Front and 295/35/18 rear is a good combo?

Anything from 255 to 275 up front will fit and yes 295 rear. The 255 looks a bit stretched/small while the 275 will look a bit bigger than the stock 265. I've run 285 before on a 9" rim and it still worked fine so IMO the 275 is just right.

why would you even consider a dw with the t1s available now?

I just put a set of Hankook Ventos on my Z. I decided to freshen it with new rims, also so went 19's all the way around with 305/30/19's on the back 275/30/19's on the front. I love the tires. The ride and traction are awesome and the tires were about a grand for the set.

I am getting real close but one last hurdle to decide on, and i would entertain opinions on it.

Option 1: Knock off set of chrome C5Z 17x9.5 and 18x10.5 wheels with Toyo T1 Sports

option 2: Same wheel type and style but 18x9.5 front and 18x10.5 rears with an appropriate tire size on the 18" fronts.

What do you think, is there any advantage either way, 18" gives up some front sidewall height.

Are the aftermarket chrome knock off wheels ok ??

Once again I am just pulling my original wheels to protect and keep them with this cars original tires for the future, resale when I move on and getting old tires off so safer to drive for now. I am a car dealer so will someday sell this commemorative car and then likely keep my newer tires and wheels I am buying to put on what ever my c5 driver is at the time.

I am thinking I will call the dealer on monday to verify the tires are of fresh mfg. dates before ordering either combo.
These look interesting for the price.

18/19 is the ideal combo as you can stay OE height with 295 30 19 and 265 35 18. you also have top tier tires like the michelin pilot super sport available. with other makes such as the v12 you could use 305 30 19. the pss just runs really wide. a pss 305 needs a minimum of 11" wide wheels and 11.5 or 12 is better. the 295 fits a 10.5" wheel great

this future proofs your car so to speak

if you already had stock z06 wheels the t1s make sense. if you don't go 18/19 . it just gives you SO many more options

I am getting old and really like good ride and less harshness on tar lines and such and handling is of little concern, !! Will I notice this on the shorter sidewalls.

I'm still a fan of shiny wheels on black cars!!

I've got black spokes with polished lips for street driving and used some black goober removable paint on the stock Z wheels for track use and hiding brake dust. It makes the blue beast look like a bad mama, but still like shiny chrome on darker colors, or a combo of some sort.

I just bought a 2002 Z06 with under 9k miles on it, has 18/19 (265F/305R) and it feels fine, ride is a bit stiffer them my previous '04Z but I put that on the Johnny O'Connell Shocks and Sway Bars...and its still very comfortable.

Ok it is settled, I will call Monday and if they can set me up with the 18/18 z06 copy wheels in 9.5/10.5 widths and the 265-35-18 and 295-35-18 combo thats it and I will have 18" front tire options looking forward and if they cannot do this combo mounted, balanced and shipped as they do the OEM sizes advertised I will get the stock 17/18 and be happy keeping everything as Chevy designed it.

Thanks guys !!! i will post a pic in a couple weeks to close this one out.
