Default a question about new vs old cam grinds

ive been looking at ms4 and g5x3 cam result threads and i see alot of people referring to those cams as old grinds and old tech. what cams would anyone say have replaced these two??

I have actually heard this a lot recently as well.

I was asking about the same cams, MS4, MS3, G5x4, GM cup cam.

Are old cam profiles not as good as the newer cam profiles? and if so, why not?

All those cams made power then and they will make power now. IMO, over time it seems vendors have learned to make similar power with lobes that are mellower on your valvetrain, getting some more life out of springs.

Cylinder heads and intake manifolds are better today then 10-15years ago. You can afford to use less cam to get similar power results with better driveability.

Comp Cams seem to be very up on different profiles these days that give good driveability, with increase in mid and top end performance. their Tech Line can answer all of your questions.

Thats kind of what I figured, they should make the same power they made back then. Thanks for your input.

Ought to make a good dyno number. Hope it doesn't get pulled on by us Streetsweeper cars

Will a 232/240 HR114+3 give me a nice lope? I'm looking for that sweet lope sound but still want it to have manners and possibly supercharge in the future. What do you think?

You will notice it for sure, but typically the "lope" is affected by the LSA. The more narrow the LSA (111 vs 114 let's say) the more valve overlap, and that is essentially what is causing that sound. At high rpm in an NA engine, valve overlap is a good thing because it helps "cheat" things into happening faster. Now in a boosted application, you are already causing a rapid rise in cylinder pressure and with excess valve overlap you can actually force air out of an exhaust valve and loose power which is why you want a wider LSA in a boosted application. Cam profiles are all very application specific.
