Kirban Kwik Shifter or B&M Ripper shifter??
I purchased the kirban kwik poopiefer for my z06 but i was wondering if anyone had one that could tell me how the short the throws are?? I've seen the ripper shifter is 25% shorter than stock and the kirban is 20% shorter. I understand the ripper shiffer is tighter and or shakey than than the kirban. Thanks

Not sure what you're asking.....the throw on the Kirban in my 2000 was about 5.5 inches, as compared to about 8.25 inches for the stock shifter.
Since you bought the Kirban, why don't you just install it and see what the throws are? Both shifters are good. Ripper has a little more shift effort due to less leverage.
I use the Hurst in my 2003 Z.
Any of these shifter may rattle....or not, depending on your luck.

I find the kirban to be sure and smooth. Definately a better shifter than I was with the stock shifter. :D

The ripper has a shorter throw but does not shift as well as my hurst though I like them both I prefer the hurst particullarly for shifting into 5th and 6th. I have driven a kirban only once and thought it shifted well but longer throw, all are considerably better than stock.

Yeah, I think Ripper has the shortest throw of the "big 3" replacement shifters. But it also makes for the hardest shifting into 5th and reverse, due to less leverage.
Reverse in my Kirban was a little tough...had to slap it to the right instead of "placing" it in reverse.
The Hurst, with its adjustable springs, allows for easier moves to 5th and reverse.
Both the Hurst and Kirban were wonderful upgrades to the stock shifter. Hurst has had the most time to do some engineering on their product. I think the Ripper was available in late-98/early-99 (?) and was the first thing out there to improve upon the stock junk.

I've got the Kirban. Was really stiff at first, but it seems broken in now and is much smoother. I havent missed a shift yet and really feel its a worthy mod. I still would like to try a Hurst and especially a Breathless, but I'm happy with what I got.

With 10k miles on my Ripper, it's getting less stiff. 1-2, 3-4 and 5-6 I can shift with just my fingers. Still a lot of effort to the left and right slots from the middle, but I'm used to it. All I can remember from the stock shifter was that I was always unsure where was third and fifth, especially under hard acceleration. Now I don't even think about it. It's very natural.
As far as the rattling, I don't notice it, I have having too much fun!! Heck it ain't a luxo barge

I had a Kirban in my vert. When I bought my Z06, I switched to a Hurst. I liked the Kirban better, so I switched back. :yesnod:

I'm curious as to how the Hurst stacks up to these two shifters? Please comment, I need things to do in my spare time..!<besides working full time, and going to school full time, and over time with my g/f!>

I had the Kirban in my 2000 FRC, but put the more advanced, more adjustable, more fully engineered Hurst in my 03Z. Nothing wrong with the Kirban....it's a MASSIVE improvement over the stocker. But the Hurst, with adjustable side-to-side gate springs is an improvement over the Kirban. The Hurst allows for eaiser shifting into 5th and reverse due to these adjustable springs. But the critical shifts into 2nd, 3rd and 4th are not much different between the two shifters. Both are excellent IMHO, but the Hurst as some better features. And nothing wrong with the Ripper, either, but the Hurst is the most advanced product. And.....it's a HURST! :yesnod:

The stock shifter has a rubber "isolator" around that seperates the stick fromt he shifter mechanism. The aftermarket units do not have this, instead the shifter attaches directly to the shift mechanism, thus allowing for more noise to be transmitted into the cabin.

No, it's not a guarantee that the shifter will rattle. My Kirban didn't, my first Hurst did a bunch, my relacement Hurst does not. However, the problem seems to be more with the stock **** than the shifter. Many of us have noticed that if you REMOVE the stock **** and do a test drive with no ****, there will be no rattles.
So select an aftermarket ****. I'm looking for the website for the one I went with. I'll post it when I find it. Great ****.
Ah....found it. http://www.mgwltd.com/corvette.html I have the "Gripper".
