Stuck in 4th gear......How many has this happened too?
after a 3 to 4 shift today on the highway, couldn't go to 5th. Put car in neutral, it's still stuck in 4th. Drove all the way home in 4th gear, luckily I only had to come to a complete stop once........Imagine it's a broken linkage or tranny fork. I've heard others mention 4th gear problems with this tranny.
That night I pulled the shifter and everthing appeared to be fine with it. I put it back in and forced it into 1st but it was extremely difficult as there was alot of resistance. Couldn't get it to go into any other gear except 1st and 4th, and now it would go into neutral as well.
Comments anyone? Car has 7500 miles on it.....

When my car stuck in 4th (due to a bad syncro) the shifter was also stuck in that position. Are you saying you can move the shifter up and back through the gears and it stay's in 4th? If so I would suspect the shifter itself first if you are lucky, otherwise something bigger. Either way get it to the dealer if it is under warranty and good luck!

I can move it into the neutral position but that is it, won't go into any other postion.....I called Roadside Assistance and there will be a flatbed at my house in the morning...

Dam Quin. Heard about this yesterday from Corey. It sounds to me like its the linkage. Hope your back up and running in no time. Also, where are you going to take it?

If you go to the zo6 vette form, I made a post about this. There IS A SERVICE BULLETIN up for this at your local dealership. Take it in! FWIW I am having brand new galvanized shift forks and synchros put in my car because my car had the same EXACT symptoms you were having.
Outa curiosity, what shifter did u have in the car? I had a hurst when this happened, and when I went to go put the stock one back on before I took it in, it shifted fine. how weird is that....

I have the Ripper, I took it out and inspected it, it looked fine by all accounts. I put it back in as I don't have my stocker anymore, and I could get it to go to 1st gear but there was ALOT of resistance, couldn't get it in any other gear but 4th, and it would go from 4th to N real easy like it should......
Dealer asked about the shifter, said as long as it's not the problem the warranty will cover whatever (meaning if the shifter isn't bad)......I can't see how it could be....

Will the SB cover 'fixing' one that hasn't broke yet?
I'm a little concerned about mine, now.

I found it so I copied and pasted the thread from the other forum for you:
Last Saturday At the track My car kept getting stuck in fourth gear and ocassionally grinded 3rd gear. This was the first time that I got STUCk in 4th gear, however it was the 3rd time that it made a 'grind' noise as I slammed third gear at the track. I was even on the freeway with the shifter getting stuck in 4th gear I was NOT powershifting any runs at the track, and always lifted.
So I took it into the dealership on Monday (Ostrom Chevrolet in Montebello). The service manager was really cool and knew the problem immediately. He says that this is NOT the first time that Corvettes have came in for this problem.
I called him today and he told me that they DID HAVE a Service Bulletin posted for this "synchro problem". He said that he ordered me an Ugrade GM "synchro-shift fork upgrade" He said the stock ones were made out of aluminum, and the ones I would be receiving were galvanized. Is that steel? Im not sure what galvanized is.
So Im really happy to see that everything has gone smooth so far at the dealership. Hopefully I will not have this problem again with the transmission. The car had approx. 3K miles on it. I should get the car back sometime in the middle of next week.
He said that they took out out for a testdrive and could not duplicate the problem, but assured me that even though they could not duplicate that they were still going to address the problem seriously.
Good to see that there is a service Bulletin up for this problem. So if you are having any problems, i recomend that you take off your drag radials, clean the rubber up underneath, and take your car into the dealership
i hope to have her running the following week, and hope that our "sea level" track that we race at is open

Here's the scoop on mine, I just got off the phone with the service guy.
The retaining springs for the 3 - 4 syncros lost their keepers. There is also damage to the 3rd gear assembly.
I'm getting new 3rd and 4th gear syncros, and a new 3rd gear assembly. Car should be ready on Tuesday.

It doesn't sound like anything you did, so what caused it and how do you make sure it doesn't reoccur?

Re: Stuck in 4th gear......How many has this happened too? (Z06 Quin)
quin this has happened to me twice in the past month. i have had hell with this transmission. fist time my car also stuck into 4th gear at 3400 miles second timeabout 500 miles later ..it was the syncros and they changed out the 3-4 shifting fork . this has happened to me twice and im not so sure that its fixed this time, i hope you have good luck ...or should i say better luck than i have..keep me posted on how this goes im trying to get together all the transmission problems because it seems like every time i bring it in to the dealership they say ive been hotroding it. "no crap" can you belive that anyone would hotrod a zo6..when did you buy your car i was looking at a yellow zo6 at landmark before i bought mine around may-june ...i came real close to getting it ... good luck...

Re: Stuck in 4th gear......How many has this happened too? (u luz)
u,
I bought it first of October, it was born September 10. The guy there seems really cool so far, he never said anything about hot rodding it, in fact, I mentioned that I do drive it like it was meant to be driven....he just said un-huh, in agreeance. Next time they give you that load of BS, just reference the video and the track segment....:D.
I think if this happens a second time I will fight for a new tranny rather than repair..................
