Is this just TOO GOOD to be True?
A Chevy dealer up here in the western half of Washington state has a 2001 Z06 with 28,250 miles, torch red, that he's listing for $34,995. I was a little taken aback by the seemingly low price. What do some of the rest of you Z06 and regular C5 guys think about this? Too good to be true? (I mean like a car that's been in a major accident and fixed up to look real good?) :(

well it sounds ok... but maybe east coast prices are better. I just picked up my '01 (see sig) with 11,000 miles for $34,000 even. Check it out good: do a car fax, see records etc.. you don't want one that burns way too much oil. Good luck these cars are hella fast; even the slow '01s.

The mileage is a bit high for an '01. I would have someone check the car over (before you buy it) if you're not sure what to look for. :skep:

The car is almost 3 years old, and it sold for about $47,000. They don't hold their value forever. The mileage is not bad. It's just broken in nicely. It still should be under the 3 year warranty, so I wouldn't worry about oil, etc. Just put some miles on it fast and monitor consumption and other things before the warranty runs out. The first owner has taken the biggest hit on depreciation, since it will not continue to drop in value that fast. Enjoy! :yesnod:

When I was searching for Vette's a few months ago before I obtained mine...there was a 01 black Z06 with only 2554 miles, and he had it listed as 37,500 on cars.com. However, he would not give me the vin number...which seemed a little odd...so I looked elsewhere :) So there are lower prices out there...just depends on how shady the people are you are dealing with :smash:

$34,995 is about right for an 01 with 28,000 miles on it. 28,000 miles is very high for a typical 01 Z06, which is probably why the price is a little lower. That being said, I'm CONFIDENT these cars can run 150,000 miles without any kind of a rebuild (assuming you don't have the oil consumption issue).
My 02 Z06 with 17,000 miles is probably worth around $38K on the private party market so $35K from a dealer for an 01 with 11,000 more miles doesn't strike me as odd at all. Probably fairly priced.
As someone else here said, it would be a good buy because these cars tend to drop 10K in value in the first year and then depreciate much more slowly. According to Kelly Blue Book, a 1998 coupe in 'good' shape with 50,000 miles is still worth around $20-22K. So you loose 10K in the first year of ownership and the next 10K drop takes 5 years...
This is also a great time to buy a used vette because all the incentives offered on new vettes depresses the prices 2-3K on the used cars. If the economy picks up and 0% and 3-4K off MSRP goes bye bye, used vettes will really hold their values in the 30-40K range.

Sounds like a reasoneable price, but nothing spectacular. I picked up my 01 about 4 months ago with 13k miles for $34,000. Of course, we are well into spring now, so sports car prices in general have picked up a little bit do to demand. The best time to buy one is in the winter when the dealers have a hard time selling them. Right now, there's enough demand that dealers may not feel like they have to negotiate much.

Dang Bman nice job... I tried for 33, but the guy got smart and wouldn't sell for that. Seeing as trade-in value was 33,800  I'm thrilled with 34, especially since the prices are starting to rise again.
