I am an owner of an '01 Z06. I am getting a high pitched whine from the front of the motor at idle. Sounds like a bearing. The local dealer has replaced the belts, changed the intake, and air conditioning idler. The noise is still there. The tech has removed all the belts and the noise was still audible. I was told by the service writer that he has other Corvettes with the same problem... so far the service team does not have a clue. Most noticeable when engine is hot and ambient air tempature is in the 90's. Some have described this noise as an air or vacumn leak, but no one can fix the problem.

Anyone have a suggestion????

There's a lot of stuff at the front of the motor. Can you isolate the sound from the accessories such as alternator, power steering pump, water pump, etc. from the motor itself? Where exactly is it coming from? Top? bottom? left side? right side? Does it change pitch with RPMs?

Just a thought, but maybe its the harmonic balancer gone bad?

Noise was there without any belts on the motor. Noise seems to be coming from the area of the PCV. But it could be comming from anywhere.

I had a high pitched whistle on mine when the temperature was hot. It was the the A/C compressor, which when replaced, solved the problem. Have you tried it w/o the A/C belt?
Also could be the alternator whine.

someone mentioned an oil pump whine. they replaced pump and noise was gone-any unusual pressure symptoms?

Did yours make the sound with the air conditioner OFF? Mine will make the Whisle at low RPM , a 1000 or less, at high temps with the air ON or OFF. :cuss

could be the AC compressor or the alternator.

LC, yes with A/C on or off it made the noise. I think it was the clutch mechanism. Disconnected the belt to the A/C and no noise.
Dealer replaced the A/C compressor. This after having replaced the idler.

Sounds like the same problem here.. they already replaced the idler but always tell me they can't reproduce the problem when I take the car to the dealer. :banghead:

I have the same problem and found this service bulletin.

WHISTLE NOISE FROM INTAKE MANIFOLD/THROTTLE BODY
This is a technical service bulletin for repair of this problem, it is not a recall. It covers 2001 Corvettes LS1, LS6 engines. TSB # 02-06-01-021
Some owners may comment on a whistle noise coming from either the intake manifold or the throttle body. The noise is most noticeable between 1100 and 2000 RPM.
This bulletin calls for replacing the intake manifold.

I'm going to wait until winter to have it changed.

Dealer replaced idler pulley on acc. belt.. we will see if it takes care of the problem. :D
