Line Lock on a 2002 Z06, HELP!
I am looking for info on doing a line lock setup on my car. I have searched threads and come up with almost nothing useful. What kits are you guys (and girls) using on the Z06? Any complete kits out there? I am a little worried "playing" with the system and "fitting" as I go; so I am hoping someone has already paved the road. I would love to have a full parts list and detailed instructions.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Line Lock on a 2002 Z06, HELP! (Shylor)
I believe I can help you and anyone else on Line Lock installs. I have a 2002 Z06 also and wanted to install a line lock. Found lots of threads but no definite answers. I met Mr. Gray on the forum who has a 02 and line lock and exchanged info with him.
Here is what I bought:
1 - Stock brake line 1044-4143 ( cost - $32 )
1 - Hurst roll control - Summit HUU-5671510 ( cost - $110.00 )
2 - NAPA 202 X 4 fittings. These are 1/4" flared line to 1/8" npt male
straight
2 - NAPA 202 X 4 X 4 unions. These are 1/4" flared line unions
2 - NAPA 402 X 4 1/4" tube to 1/8" NPT elbow
I bought an assortment of 1/4" flared brake lines with fittings on both
ends:
NAPA - 813-1226, 813-1221 and 813-1222
Custom homemade aluminum bracket to hold the line lock
Lowes 3/16 SS hex head bolts, flat washers, lock washer, nuts
2 - SS 1/8" Allen head pipe plugs
Ok after getting all these parts together and my Double Flaring tool AND ISO metric Bubble flaring tool, I went to the Garage and started bending 1/4" steel line with a 1/4" bender ( it helps to have all the good tools ). I used the STOCK 6mm line I bought, cut off the ABS end, slipped 1/4" standard tube nut fitting back on and made a 90 degree bend there and double flared. So I have a stock line from the Master Cylinder to just under the altenator and from there is bends atraight up with a standard 1/4" male end on it. Placed one NAPA 202 X 4 X 4 union on that end. Then I made another tube for the ABS using the stock fitting on a 1/4" tube ( had to drill out the stock tube to 1/4" ) on one end and a standard 1/4" fitting on the other. Got my Hurst roll control in place where the big ground wires are bolted to frame.
This is where I am at now. All tubes are bent and ready to fit up. Just waiting for warmer weather to roll it out, install and bleed.
You will need to make one bubble flare for the ABS side, other than that the rest are standard double flares and fittings.
I will take pics when I'm done and provide a writeup.
PS: I choose to use 1/4" lines, since the stock is 6mm which is slightly under the 1/4" size. I see where some have used the 3/16" standard brake lines which in my humble opinion is too small. GM wanted them big for a reason, so I went slightly bigger.

Re: Line Lock on a 2002 Z06, HELP! (lager99)
Really it is not. What is required is basic mechanical skills and good knowledge of flaring tubing bleeding brakes. In my case, I do all the work myself on my cars and would not trust taking it to a shop for the quality of work I expect.
I was thinking that if other folks liked this line lock installation and wanted to follow the same guidelines, then I might have them send me the stock 1044-4143 line and I would cut and flare the two lines out of it that are the essential core pieces of the project. The bubble flare fittings used my GM on the MC and the ABS sides are exotic fittings which cannot be readily found.

badddrx7,
You Da'Man!
This is exactly what I was looking for. I have the skill, but did not want to be running back and forth to get parts. Thanks for taking the time and posting. This is a huge head start.
Big

Re: Line Lock on a 2002 Z06, HELP! (Airwolf)
You are welcome Airwolf.... If you are like me, working this small mod is a pleasureable thing. I get satisfaction out of "engineering" my own job and seeing it work. I bought extra fittings and line ( man they are cheap ! )but ended up going with the 1/8" x #4 elbow fittings on the line lock. I already had tubing benders but did buy the Iso Bubble flaring tool. The model I bought was Tol-Otc-4504 and was $25.00. This thing makes metric bubble flares EXACTLY like what is on the stock brack line sends.
Pointers - when you flare the one stock brake line end to standard double flare, use the Metric bubble flaring tool ( 6mm ) hole to hold the tube. Then use the regular double flaring tool die to run the initial bulge. Remove from that tool and chuck it up in your double flaring tool 1/4" side and finish the flare with the pointed clamping tool. It will be a perfect double flare. Oh, and remember to put your standard flare nut on first ;)
I can send you some pictures of Mr. Gray's line lock install and it will all become clear. My only change from his is the line FROM the line lock to the ABS is a solid line - no union. And it's a 1/4" tube, not the stcok 6mm tube. It is a minor stray from his mod.
