How do you keep chrome wheels clean?
I am having a real tough time keeping the chrome wheels on my black Z06 clean.
Especially the front wheels get very dirty with, I guess, brake dust and it seems to stain or pit the chrome wheels where it is almost impossible to get them to look new again.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
My Z06 / IgoFast

When I wash my car every weekend I use a wheel brush to get all the big dirt grime off. Then after the car is dried, I wipe all the wheels with a damp towel. This is where I get in all the knook and crannies to make them looks really clean. Then I go over them with a dry towel 'til they look spotless. Then every six weeks or so, I use some Zaino on them.
The process I do is very time consuming, but well worth the effort in my opinion.

I have the same scenario, except my rims do still look new. It's only some very small black spots that won't come off no matter how hard I rub. I called the place where I got the rims because I didn't want to ruin the finish or void my warranty (Corvettes of Houston) & they suggested trying a chrome wheel cleaner, like Mothers or Turtle Wax.. Haven't had a chance yet, but sounds like a plan.

A good coat of polish/wax will help to protect them, and if you're not doing any track events you might condsider going to ceramic pads to eliminate (or substantially reduce) the brake dust. :yesnod:

I use mothers chrome cleaner. It is a liquid and applies with ease, and the chrome comes out real nice. It does a great job in removing those black stains you get from the breake pads. The stock pads dust so bad I ended up changing the pads out to Hawk Street pads. It really helped out with the dusting problem and not one squeal from the brakes. :)

I use "Never Dull" magic wadding once a month. After every wash I use "Armor All" windshield cleaner on them. Works for me. Results may vary. :D

I probably spend as much time on my wheels as I do washing/waxing the rest of the car...(I even get under the car to clean the inside...)
1st: Start with perfectly clean rims
2nd: Wax them, every time you wax your car! This will make it much easier to clean in between waxes.
3rd: Water and a towel, if above steps are done, should let you just wipe the residue off...providing you do it every week or two...What I do is wet the tire; let is sit for a minute or two; take a damp towel and gently wipe away the majority of the surface grime; get a new, dry towel and wipe to brilliant shine...yes it should be just that easy if you do this regularly!

Can anyone answer this question? Does window cleaner (Windex) or foam window cleaner hurt the chromies?? :grouphug:

Keep it in the garage under a 300.00 cover!! That would work but if you drive in city they will always collect dust road grime. Use a wax that will wash off easy dust.

I use a California Duster every other time I bring the car home. A minute and a half, and it gets the worst of the dust off.
I have also heard that going to ceramic pads helps a lot (as mentioned earlier in this post).
