I have driven C5s on the track before, and look forward to owning a C6 someday.
I think this is a valid discussion, one that can be ongoing topic as more people transition from C5s to C6s.
I can't understand the mentality to automatically jump on a newbie who asks a valid question.

Since the C6 has more HP & More TQ with a broader torque-curve, improved suspension, better tires than a C5, the C6 will take the C5 at the drags & on road courses. The Z06 & the C6 are much closer & would probably come down to driver ability.
Personally, I have only seen one C6 at the track (Road Atlanta) but he was in a different group, so couldn't judge how well he did.
I have run against one on the street in my C5...it wasn't much of a contest. I doubt that he was much of a real 'car guy' because he should have known that I wasn't stock.

Everything I've seen is a C6 Z51 and C5 Z06 will be neck and neck.
Base C5 would be done.
If you're thinking of buying, to me the question comes down to two personal issues (1) how much you can spend and (2) how important are looks, since the cars look different.
For me, (1) dictated a C5 - 10k off sticker vs. MSRP for a C6.
However, had that not been an issue, it would have been nice to have a Z06-like performer with an open top (ala C6 Z51).
My Dad and I have had 3 C5's between us, and he now has a C6 Z51. Very torquey, very tight handling. Difference is very noticable between that and a base C5, which I have. I've never driven a C5 Z.
Cheers.

You don't have to use the search feature for this one. Just look over the thread titles for the last 2 or 3 days. As someone else has already pointed out, these threads usually get unsettling after a few. Here's a thread to the latest. Newbies would still do well to look over the last few days topics & threads before they post - not flaming anyone, by any means - just a suggestion (we could all do this).

You don't 'search' very well.
