Permanent trickle charger connection?

Permanent trickle charger connection?
A quick question for those that have hooked up a trickle charger. Is it safe to attach directly to the + / - terminals on the battery with a trickle charger for a permanent hook-up or do I need to use the remote locations cited in the manual for jump starting??
Just want to make sure. Thanks

I went straight to the battery connections. That's how instructions on Battery Tenders show. I just did mine last weekend and am going to post pics when I can find time.

I use the cigarette lighter socket and leave the window cracked about an inch. This puts a fuse (3amp in the plastic plug) between the trickle charger and the battery. Also, if DBS strikes, at least it won't beat up the window seal when I pop the door open.

That's what I did last fall, and it was fine every time I used the car all winter.
