Does the contrast of DSOM and atomic orange bring to mind the contrast of monterey red and victory red? I like VR to begin with because its more bright and lively, on that note I like atomic orange for those same reasons

Default DSOM in TX

Down here they call DSOM "burnt orange" for UT. As an Ex, I like it. For any Aggies out there, my 2nd choice was MR (or as we say in TX, "maroon").

To me, AO looks like butterscotch pudding. But I mean that in a positive way.

Now that I own a DSOM car, I can't imagine why I would have ever considered any other color (I was focused on an LMB, Silver, or Monterey Red prior to purchase). The Cashmere interior compliments it beautifully. I am glad GM is discontinuing it- I'll have one of a few.

Nothing could be more metalic than Spiral Gray and it had a two year run...

Why are you thinking about trading your '05 for an '07, Robyn?

That was a HUGE difference. Not sure what colors your refering too. NB was a bright blue and EB is a dark blue.

I say we send this thread to the paint guy at GM, haha, and tell him we want DSOM for 07 or "we ain't buyin a new one".
Paint is as much art as science, and especially with tint coats like AO, MR, etc. You use a base coat of color and often that has nothing to do with the final color - I believe I have read that the base coat for MR is silver - then you apply the tint coat to that, then the clear. A good friend of mine's shop will be painting some door handles and a Z06 spoiler for my MR vert and he told me that his painter has a new name for them to use instead of Monterey Red Metallic - "PITA"

I have a friend in the insurance biz and he told me recently, while looking at my Machine Silver C6, that there are actually seven versions of that color. At the factory they paint the body panels individually and then match as best possible to get a monochromatic vehicle. That, he said, is the reason that painting after body work is such a problem. I really like the DSOM, but have a plain SOM Colorado P/U and just couldnt take that much OM. SOM and DSOM sure look like the same color to me.

The roof panel is painted elsewhere. Also, I think both bumpers.

Anyway, mismatch with DSOM roof panel is common. I'm going to have mine replaced someday within the next year.

I guess this means we may not have an orange option in 08-09, etc. That's what happened with my Dark Bowling Green Metallic 2001. I wanted a new vette, but didn't care for any of the ordinary colors. I've always been the type to want or do whatever is different than the norm.
The rear bumper cover is not painted at the same time (nor in the same batching process) as the rest of the body panels, so there could very well be a paint matching problem.

Hi mpuzach :-) well, I decided I wanted a power top after all and the nav, so thought I would try to sell the 05 for what I owe on it (if i can get that lucky) if I can't then I'll just keep it. I just want more bells and whistles I guess :-)

Thanks for all the great info on the "art of auto paint" I'm learning quickly that it truly is an art. I was surprised to read that not all parts are painted at the same time and place. No wonder they have trouble matching!!! I had pictured this big sprayer arm just doing mass sprays on corvette parts duh

Car one color and roof another shade. May change again after roof recall.

As I mentioned before, if it's sunny you can see a big difference between them but on a cloudy dark day it's a little harder to tell. Nice post JUSAYHI
