Rough Idle on my 2006 c6 z51
Hi everyone
I have already posted this concern once. But here comes again.
Is normal to have a rough idle. By rough I mean it kind of has a little shaking in the idle. Dealer says its normal.
I use high 94 octone gas. I have tried 91 and 92 but same rough idle.
It just doesn't seem smooth. Is everyone's C6 have the same rough idle. You do see the rpm needle move a little up and down?
I have approx 3500 kms on my c6.

its the cam,, its normal... in every other way this engine is incredibly civilized. Its amazing that it makes 400 horses and still its smooth as silk when moving, and gets unreal gas mileage. you know when you have a 400 horse engine back in the late sixties, it sure didnt run like this.

My last car was a 01 Z28 with the Comp 224XER cam. My impression of the Vette is it's the smoothest idling car I've ever had. I guess I was too used to the Camaro shaking at idle.

"Rough" compared to what? One driver's definition of rough, sounds like music to another. A low compression, highly muffled engine may sound quiet vs. an LS2. But if it feels rough or out of synch, have it diagnosed. May be as simple as a software issue, and not mechanical.

Mine shakes a bit at idle, especially when there is more engine heat. Been like that for 24,000+ miles. But I don't think the RPM moves up and down at noticeable amount while the car is bucking.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I guess its normal from what you are all telling me.
I should probably test a dealer car and see if it feels the same as mine. I guess it should.
1st vette so we need re-assurance about these little things.
Thanks again to all.

My '06 Z51 coupe at 2600 miles does not do what you are describing at all, smooth idle, no movement to the tach needle. I've been driving Vettes for years now, so maybe I'm used to it and don't notice, though. May be nothing, but I'd have it checked by a dealer just to be safe.

Can be many causes, but mostly in the fuel system. Here's what to do.
1. Get a high end Fuel Injector cleaner.
2. Mix it to the tank at double strength (ie if it sez treats up to 20 gal, use it to treat 10 gal.)
3. 100 mi after using the cleaner go to your favorite place
4. Start from a dead stop and wind out 1st to 6300 RPM shift to second and wind out to 6300 RPM.
Sometimes we get mild carbon deposits that cause a rough idle. Sometimes a slichtly clogged fuel injector will be the cause.
If this dosen't work - too bad - but you had fun winding it out anyway

Bottom line: If you see the tach needle bouncing up and down a few hundred RPMs at idle, get it checked out.
If the tach oscillates within one hundred RPMs during idle, thats normal.
Thats my opinion.
