Default DBS Prevention?

I have an A6 06 and will be leaving the country for a couple weeks. According to the owner's manual if you don't plan on starting the car for 25 days you should disconnect the negative battery terminal, so it would seem the official advice from GM is not to do anything, but reading all these DBS threads is making me slightly paranoid.

So it looks like my options are:

(1) Leave the car in the garage for 2 weeks and hope that it starts when I get back
(2) Have the neighbor start the car every few days
(3) Disconnect the battery

What do you guys think?

You have an 06 A6...don't worry about it.

Disconnect the battery and put the battery on a trickle charger. The second is really unnecessary but will give you a warm fuzzy.

Buy a Deltran Battery Tender

http://batterytender.com/product_info.php?products_id=2

You can actually get it at Battery Mart for $47.00. Good, cheap insurance if you are going to be leaving the car for a couple of weeks.

Hook it up in less than 5 minutes with the battery still hooked up to the car, and don't worry about it.
It will charge the battery as needed and maintain it while you are gone.

Every Vette owner whose car is not a daily driver and might sit for a couple of weeks or more should have one.

Disconnecting his battery could make him lose some of his personal settings and cause him to have to reset his clock and radio stations, etc.

If all is well with your car 2 weeks(if the battery is up to full charge when you park it) should not hinder it from starting.
If you want peice of mind and have a electric outlet handy, get a Tender.
FWIW I got mine at Wallyworld, paid under $20 for it.

I'd just leave it alone if it's just 2 weeks.
'DBS' per se only refers to '05 MN6 cars with unexplained dead batteries despite being properly shutdown in reverse.
Unexplained dead batteries in A6 are quite rare:

Battery Tender if you're still worried...

OK, thanks for the advice guys. Since this car has been my daily driver for 6 months now hopefully the battery should have a pretty good charge on it.

I think I will chance it by doing nothing and hope for the best, but will let you know either way if it starts up or not. Hopefully there are no tow trucks in my future...

Get a "battery Tender" , just attatch the leads and walk away. Keeps the battery up to snuff for any extended period. It's good for your battery.

Two weeks is nothing, don't worry about it. I have a motorhome that sits for months and starts with out a problem. If you had an 05 MN6 maybe you would have something to worry about.

I've got an 06 MN6 and I've left it unstarted outside in freezing weather for more than 3 weeks and it started up fine. Now that I run it almost every day and it is almost warm, I get DB.
The battery should be fine.

OK, I just got back from my trip, after 14 days the car started just fine. Now that's what I call a quality GM product...
