New GM Card?
Several years ago GM tried to persuade me to switch to their new credit card which built up purchase credits faster than the old card. But the new card had much lower limits on how much credit you could apply to any individual vehicle, so I declined to "upgrade". Thank You, Corvette Forum for that information. When I bought my C6 in February of this year I was able to use all of my $2,500 credit on that car.
My current "old" card does not expire until December, but I just received a new GM "World" MasterCard that they want me to activate. More annoying, my recent statement shows that my account has been automatically switched over to the new number. Oh, by the way, they suggest that I notify all those companies that bill my card automatically. Mighty nice of them to mention that.
Has anyone spent an afternoon reading through all the fine print that comes with this new card? Advantages and disadvantages? Can I still use an unlimited amount of purchase credit toward one car?

The "World" GM Card is just like the other new cards in that they have the new limits. They are trying to phase out all those great "old cards".
You are lucky I only got the new card with the thousand dollar limit on a vette . These programs help spur sales for the less popular cars and trucks. P.S. I was saving my credit point dollars for the new restyled trucks coming this fall and I just found out that they (GM) are dropping from $3500 allowance to $1500!

You think that's bad. A while back they reduced the earning percentage to employees and their families with the GM card to 1%. Although it can be used in conjuntion with GMS (employee pricing), it takes forever to build up points at 1%. Fortunately there is NO limit on how much you can build up in the 7 year period. I put everything on that one card even if I have the cash in my pocket....

I have the new world card and they told me it was the same plan I have had(500/yr for 7 years). My last statement said I have maxed out @ $500.00 for this year so it appears the old plan stays with you. If they changed it, it would keep accumulating.

They told me that there would be no changes to the rebate plan by going to the world card. You can still use up to $3500 ($4000 in some instances) on any GM purchase. Since I have 3 cards with well over 2K on each I would have a major problem if that was bad info.

I recently had my card upgraded. I have over 2k in earnings. It was my understanding that the earnings would not be affected.

I was assured that everything would stay the same as the old card. Limited to $500 a year accumulation, but no limit on how much you can use toward a car of your choice.

I should have gotten one of those cards when they first came out, but I thought I would never buy a GM at that time. Since then, I've bought 3 S-10's, 1 Blazer, 1 Silverado, 1 Z28 and the Corvette! And they have all been great trouble free vehicles.

i built up 1600 on my card which i THOUGHT was a extended family card. Only to find i could not redeem my earned funds on my recent GMS purchase. The sickening thing is that i WORK FOR HSBC which is the backer for the credit card. I have since cut mine up and moved on.

New World Crad
I also was automatically upgraded to the new world card. I did not see anything in the details about the earnings, so I called Mastercard and was told that the earnings plan does not change from what you already have....

The "earnings" may not have changed but as others noted GM is now restricting how much you can use toward certain (more desirable) vehicles.
The GM Card used to be a good deal - a GREAT deal when it first came out years ago. Little by little the perks have been reduced. The last straw for me was stopping employees from using their card earnings along with GMS pricing.
It was pretty good while it lasted. I won't be using mine any more.
