This is starting to look like the tip of iceberg! We are reading more and more posts by CF members about their flying tops.... Apparently there isn't always a warning of its impending launch either. So you folks that want to trust that your top isn't going to go airborne on the interstate good luck. I have both tops but my painted top is staying in my garage for now. Sooner or later someone is going to have a post with a real horror show. Perhaps getting caught in torrential rain storm in the middle of no where comes to mind. That might cause an accident if someone tired to keep driving! Thanks but no thanks..... I’ll just keep using my trans top until GM really has a solution to this problem. If you insist on using the painted top then keep a roll of racer tape in your car. Better to have and not need then to need and not have

I agree this is turning into quite a problem. You may be better off not finding the top, they may want to try to fix the darn thing.

Well to cheer you up I lost my C5 top because I did not fasten it down.

I truly take no pleasure in everyone's misfortune, but I have never been so glad that I went with the transparent top option instead.

Did you know about the recall before your top flew off? If so, did you take it in to the dealer to have it "fixed" or replaced?

A lot of C6s are having the problem, but a lot of owners are failing to take the tops in for the recall.

There are also owners that haven't gotten recalls even though the informal survey here showed separations in the s/n sequence.

The are also owners here that have had their's in multiple times.

Is there really a recall? I have checked my gm.com owners center and there is no recall notice for mine. I have asked two dealers about it and they can't confirm a recall. Looks like there should be one soon though.

I've only heard about roof problems here. Not saying I disagree in any way with all the stories ('specially since I started hearing different popping noises today), just that I'm disappointed that I haven't heard A THING from GM "themselves".

Even on mygmlink.com or whatever it is, I can't seem to get my VIN entered. Keeps telling me if I've entered it, it will be processed and updated at some point.

If it weren't for stumblin upon this forum a year or so ago, I'd be missing a wealth of information.

Is the body flexing or expanding in the heat? This is wierd and kind of makes me glad I bought a '96 because I sure have been eyeballing those new ones. Wow, sorry to hear about all the issues guys.

sorry to hear that Jason. Mine came 75% separated just sitting in the sun in my driveway. It took about 3 or 4 days from the first creak until almost total separation.

I had this problem as will with my top. and the dealer fixed it and it went off again and now i am going to replace it.

I think opening and closing the top several times causes this problem, thats why i'm not going to remove my top anymore

I have asked this question before but it was never really answered. I had my top replaced a week before the "recall" was announced by the NHTSA. When the recall comes out will this supposedly fixed new top be included or will I be sent on my way untill it fails? From what I understand per some other posts, dealers are making you leave the car until the new roof is installed unless you sign a waiver that you will not drive the car with the top on. I don't have a glass top in case that happens.

Are you sure it will be fixed? Members of this forum have had there tops "fixed" by the dealer only to have the top come flying off again. Chevy doesn't appear to have a real fix for this problem. I think you might be better off getting a transparent top to replace your painted top.

You must be mistaken. GM claims that only about 11 roofs have seperated. It must have been a piece of paper or something that was on the roadway.

If GM wants a win, and they sure do need them, lets us pay to upgrade to the clear roof.

To my knowledge, there has been no recall issued to anyone, yet! The notice I got in the mail a month or so ago specified that you could take your top in for repair IF you were getting any of the symptoms listed in the letter and you felt that there was a problem. That is not a "real" recall in my eyes!

FWIW, I hope if/when you find your top, you don't find a body lying next to it.

It's just a matter of time before someone gets killed. Then you'll get your roof recall letter in the mail.

Most of us have done it, few of us will admit it.
I got lucky, noticed a front handle hanging down just before driving away in my C5. Now, people can think I'm a jerk but I NEVER talk to anyone while installing the roof.
