Autocross Pix
Hey everyone, I did an autocross the other day. My second one. It's a blast and for those that haven't done one I highly suggest it. Here are some pix.
Here's a photoshoped pic that I thought was pretty cool
Enjoy.

Nice pics!!! Cool!!!
I am going to take a guess and say that you do NOT have the Z51 package. I say this beause it appears that you are experiencing a good deal of body roll. I don't think my Z51 rolls that much... certainly doesn't seem like it anyway. Just an observation.

I do have the Z-51 package. The roll is because It's a tight turn at about 40 -50 mph. The car was sliding quite a bit and the understeer is bad when you're cutting the turn at that speed especially after comming off braking. Autocross has very tight turns unlike a race track, hence the body roll. Trust me, it was a small amount of roll compared to some cars but then again, I only scored mid pack. It's a BMW group and I have to give them credit, either their cars are really well balanced/moded or they are awesome drivers. I was able to beat my friends M3 convertible by 1 second though.

oct 14th we are having a sanctioned nccc low speed event in lafayette ny at cherry valley cart track, no cones. just a go cart track. i took fastest time of day and 1st in my class with my c6 06 vert z51 last month. come on up and run with us!
fred
i even beat a c5 zo6 who runs every race out there. he was upset to say the least. he even brings sets of tires etc. mine was straight from the corvette museum pick up to the track. (put corsa on 1/2 way there, only mod original run flats!

I recently went on a mountain tour where I got to really push my Z51 to the limits... sometimes going into super tight turns from 40 mph, etc. I guess my car must have been rolling like yours but it just didn't feel like it from inside the car. Car felt almost dead level the whole time... a bit of an illusion I suppose due to the overall amazing handling capabilities. A lot of the mountain roads have slight banks to them which may have helped reduce apparent roll in my case.
Again, awesome shots! Thanks for the info!

AutoX is all about the driver, then the car. AutoX is a lot of fun been
doing it since 83.
ps now if I could just get some R tires for it.

I'm starting to realize that. I consider myself a good driver but I clearly have some things to learn. I wish I could get some R compounds too or something a bit more grippy than the runflats.

Thanks for sharing the photos. I would suggest any car will roll accordingly when 'diving' hard through a tight turn at speed. Heck, you still have all four tires on the pavement...it looks fine to me

Last month I really flogged our 2006 Z51 Coupe in some of the Colorado canyons and never felt like "stiffer would be better". Our previous 2001 Z51 coupe (with Bilstein shocks and Firestone SZ50 tires) felt a lot stiffer but didn't handle any better than the 2006, in fact probably not quite as well.
The 2006 Z51 sometimes feels like it could use tighter shocks on some rollercoaster sections of road, and would probably turn slightly better lap times on a smooth road course if it were stiffer. But overall, I thinks it's pretty darn good for handling on real roads where the pavement is usually less-than-perfect. I'm pleasently surprised...

I'm actually pretty happy with the stiffness of the shocks. Quite a few times I have flown into harsh dips, ready for the crunch sound of the car bottoming out... but was pleasantly surprised at how the suspension kept the car from dropping too much or too fast (even with two people and luggage in the car). I have not yet smacked the bottom of the car on the pavement, even on serious dips on wild mountain roads at high speed. The car just seems so incredibly capable in just about all real world driving situations.
As I have said before, all that Nurburgring testing and tuning really paid off... it's very obvious... they really did an excellent job. For those who haven't run their Z51s in a Nurburgring-like situation (mountain type roads) at high speed (60 - 100 mph), you don't know what your missing. The ability to handle such situations so incredibly well at high speeds is probably the car's greatest strength. The only way to really understand this is to do it... you'll love your C6 more than ever.
