C6 longevity and reliability? 100k+ mile examples? Owner or mechanic testimonials?
Hello all.
There is no doubt that the C6 platform is the best performing, most comfortable, and most economical new sports car available today.
However,
I have not heard much about HIGH mileage C6's and how they are holding up from owners and their mechanics.
I’m talking about C6’s with 100k+ miles on them.
(Don’t laugh! I personally know of Mustang and Supra guys running 200k+ mile cars as their daily drivers. )
I have met guys who are still driving their Corvettes that they bought when they got back from Vietnam.
I want to be one of those guys.
I thought this thread could give some owners/mechanics an opportunity to document how well the C6's are holding up with miles on them.
Please post about your experiences with high mileage C6's that you may own or work on.
I'm trying to collect information/testimonials from owners/mechanics regarding HIGH mileage C6's.
I'm looking for info regarding what kind of maintenance and repair do I need to prepare myself for if I plan on running my C6 for the next 10 years as a daily driver.
In other words,
examples of items that will need to be repaired/replaced with a rough idea of the mileage/time when the work may be required.
I know I am asking a lot.
I appreciate any info shared on your high mileage C6.
If anyone is curious why I am asking,
I am considering driving my Corvette daily for MANY years while running up MANY miles.
I usually own at least 2 cars:
#1- Daily driver for racking up the miles (AWD, Automatic)
#2- Sports car
So, I am trying to decide between doing the 2 car combination again,
or driving the Corvette as my only transportation with the truck left driveway for emergencies only.

Well seeing as how the C6 is just a smidge under 3 years old, I'd say it'll be pretty hard to find one with 100k+ miles on it. Even if it was a daily driver. Unless of course they routinely drive cross-country just for the hell of it. But going by the reliability of the LS1s, I'd say that the LS2 should last for a long time.

A good idea may be to go to the C5 section and ask a similar question. The C6 foundation (i.e. suspension, engine, etc) is a update to the C5, but (I believe) it uses a similar design/ foundation.
I think any car maintained properly will last for years to come.

Don't think you'll have a problem. My girl just got a C6, and I still have my C5. The C5 is a 2002 6 spd convertible and has a little over 70k miles. So far, it has only had routine oil changes, tires, and front brake pads changed. It's yet to go to the shop for any repairs. I've been extremely pleased. I bought it as a second vehicle with the intention of my truck being the daily driver. That was no fun, so now the truck just sits....
I think you'll be ok either way you go, but I doubt you'll find too many high mileage C5s out there just because most people don't drive them much. I'm one of the exceptions. Why drive my truck, when I can drive a vette, sort of philosophy.

I expect the drive train will be as bullet proof as the C4s and C5s (my friend has a C4 with well over 250,000 miles, original engine). What I think the weak link will be is the electronics. Just to many computers and sensors to be 100% reliable for long periods of time...

As was said, 2005 was the first year of the C6, so there isn't much to say about 100,000 mile experiences. For what it is worth, a GM Corvette engineer at Putnam last summer told me that the engine is "stressed" to 200,000 miles.

Just traded my '94 C4 with 142,000 miles on it. Would not have hesitated to have gotten into it and driven it anywhere in North America. Routine repairs: shocks, brakes, tires, water pump, Opti....tranny and engine fine.

my 02 C5 had 99K when I traded for the C6..Hopefully the C6 will do the same
