Default Z51 vs Standard C6?

I know the Z51 is faster but I was just wondering how much so. What all does the Z51 package add to the stock car? Thanks for any info.

If I was the suspicious type I'd think you were trying to stir the pot!

Here are some facts:

Both cars have the same engine and same rear end.

In a 1/4 drag the Z51 car tops out at about 108 mph in 3rd gear and must shift to 4th while the base/F55 car can hit about 118 in 3rd gear and doesn't need to shift into 4th.

All that being said GM claims the Z51 is about .1 of a second faster in the 1/4 mile.

For the top end there is not as much data, but safe to say they will probably be equal.

So there you have it, GM says the Z51 is faster by .1 of a second......better watch out if your driving a base/F55 huh?

Missed the second part of your question. Z51 uses different gearing in the tranny and has additional oil coolers for the tranny & rear end. Also different spring rates and shocks in the suspension department as well as larger sway bars. On '06 and lower cars also had larger rotors that were drilled, for '07 this has also been added to the F55 cars.

How about a sticky with links to the 5000 threads about this subject?

Z51 is a performance-oriented package for the Gymkhana/Autocross enthusiast, includes power steering, engine oil and transmission coolers, stiffer springs and stabilizer bars, specific shock absorbers, larger brakes with cross-drilled rotors, specific tires and Z51 specific 6-speed manual when ordered with 6-speed manual transmission (Z51).

I took this off the GM site.

Anyone know what the difference is between the standard manual transmission and the Z51 specific transmission?

The Z51 6 Spd has a taller 5th gear so that it can reach GM's 300 KPH (186 MPH) so it is a little faster on the top end.

Cool to have the lower gears, but you're not going to feel the difference in acceleration. Buy it for the suspension.

Seeing as how you may not get a good explanation, this subject gets brought up a lot, and there have been some very heated - and not too friendly discussions here on the C6 forum on this subject. So, the normal response now is to try to punish people like yourself who are new to the C6 section

I've had both a Z51 and a F55 C6 (the F55 performance is the same as base except where the F55 shocks come in to play). Unless you plan on racing the car, they are, for all practical purposes, identical in performance. There are some advantages to Z51 even in normal driving though. I do suggest you do a search as it will actually bring you a lot of good information.

Specific questions will be easier to adress in a new thread.

While there is a slight measurable edge in acceleration with Z51, I seriously doubt that you'll actually feel it. The most significant differences are in the suspension and auxilary cooling.

my car has Z51 but I have driven the base car. feels the same to me. Buy it for the suspension, oil coolers, and brakes IF you are going to autocross. Otherwise dont worry about it...ALL corvettes haul ***!!!

Nope not today. Actually the car I am going to buy is in KY price is right and nothing is available here in CO unless I want to pay new car prices for a used car.

With only .03 difference in the gearing I doubt if that comes into play, wind resistance is your greatest enemy at speed and taller gearing chokes the engine more while lower gears allow the engine to wind out to higher revs. So I'd say it's six of one and a half dozen of the other.
