Default OnStar and Verizon phone

I want to add my car Verizon phone number to my regular Verizon family plan. Not bad, it only adds 9.95 a month. HOWEVER, I need to renew Onstar for another year at a price of at least 149/year (if I get the discount). Is there any known way to add the phone without the Onstar service?

No, not currently. However, at least one or more individuals here claim to have been able to get OnStar to come down on the price of a year of the Safe 'N Sound account you have to keep in order to get the phone.

Right - thats the $149 reference in my post. Its normally $211.94. I want the phone service, just not really keen on the OnStar. I like the insurance aspect of it but beyond that, I dont use it.

If the phone number is locked into the car, cant Verizon activate it independantly?

No, The firmware does not allow it. You have to remember OnStar's reason for being.
