Default Has Royal Purple solved your differential chatter?

Want to know if it's worth the effort of changing out the differential to royal purple synthetic, I currently have a very slight chatter when cold and would rather take care of this myself than go to the dealer.

What do you guys think about royal purple, also, anybody using a different oil which took care of the chatter, I am open to new ideas, thanks.

If you use Royal Purple Max-Gear Synthetic, 75w-90 with Synslide, no friction modifiers are required as they are already in the lubricant. I had my clutch plates replaced 12,000 ago, switched to Royal Purple Max-Gear Synthetic, 75w-90 with Synslide at that time and so far so good.

I've never had any chatter, but switched to RP 75w-90 straight up at 1200 miles. (I always change diff fluid in every car at 1200 miles.) I'm at 9000 miles with a silent rear end. From past experience I'm guessing RP puts more friction modifier in per unit volume of lubricant than Redline or Mobil-1, because it's the only 75W-90 I've never had to add friction modifier with to quell chatter.

Shopdog will probably tell me I'm stupid again , but I change my differential fluid every three years. It never ceases to amaze me how much metal is visible in the old fluid (on every car, not just vettes).

No surprise at all. 70K miles on a C6? How many miles do you drive per year?

Moibil1 gear lube does not contain any friction mods; you have to add your own. Red Line has two versions; one with and one without friction mod. I have my trans and differential fluids changed every 30K miles...what's wrong with that?

Sorry, but Mobil-1 does contain friction modifier. See:

http://www.mobil1.com/USA-English/Mo..._75W-90LS.aspx

I've never tried the NS version of Redline, so every sample I've tried supposedly has FM too.

As for what's wrong with changing differential fluid, GM doesn't recommend it at all.

40 to 50K, had 100k on the 2000 and 100K on the 02 and the only trouble was with aftermarket suggestions.

Thanks! I used to use Mobil1 gear oil in my other cars, plus a bottle of limited slip additive. I now use Red Line gear oil in the Z06. I wasn't aware that Mobil1 now has a "LS" version. I "learnt" something today.

WOW, awesome pic!!! Got any more? If so, please post!

70k miles already on a C6.... NICE! Now that's how a C6 was meant to be used!

I look forward to the day when I have the time to run that hard!

Awesome!

I tried them all. The noise still returns after a thousand miles or a track weekend.

Mine's been in twice for the problem; at 10K miles, they just replaced the fluid. At 12K miles they replaced the clutch pack, and that was 8K miles ago, with no problem since...All done by the dealer with their lubricants...

I tried GM, Mobil 1, and finally Redline. It has been approximately 6000 miles since Redline with no problems so far. I did add the GM additive to it also. I think the trick is to make about 8 very slow figure 8's to work the new fluid into the clutch packs.
