New Down South Vettes shift boot pics- Thanks Gerardo!!!
As some of you may recall I was the winner of the forum drawing for a new DSVettes shift boot as drawn a couple of weeks ago. Gerardo notified me right away and shipped out my prize. This is the basic black leather shift boot. I contacted him with my address and he shipped it out right away (UPS express too, nice touch.) and I got it a couple of days later.
I finally made some time to do the install this morning. Regarding the boot, the quality is apparent right away. The seams are tight and the leather is very nice. The install is fairly straight forward. I'd rate it a 2 out of five and I spent about 30 minutes from start to finish. I used the install photo's on DSVettes website to frame the project and decided to tackle it.
The tools used are:
The original OEM shift boot that I was going to replace
The shift **** comes off with a T25 torx screw. Just pull down the top of the old boot to expose it.
Here are the two boots to compare the quality. The DSVettes boot is about twice as thick as the factory vinyl.
Here is how the assembly looks just out of the car.
The hole left behind.
The new boot mounted and ready to be installed. I simply used a conventional stapler to reattach the new boot to the trim ring.
The finished product back in the car and ready to go.
I am very pleased with the results and can certainly recommend Gerardo's product to anyone. You can browse his wares here:

Enjoy the ride,

I received mine from Gerardo yesterday. Leather and shift **** look perfect, can't wait to put it in.
I went with Victory Red to liven' up my all black interior.

Melting Slicks
Unless I am not seeing it you are missing some heat insulation from around your shifter>>>
It is the flat rubber piece surrounded by the shiner foam piece

The install isn't too bad, just a little nerve racking getting the OEM boot and ring out the first time.

great post, one of the first things I noticed was the ebarke and shift boot not being leather, its on the list of things to do, I cannot understand why chevy would not spend the few extra bucks to do this on such a fine car.

I don't worry about that too much. First, it does leave something for the aftermarket folks but more importantly, I'll take the compromises they made to have this great car for as low cost as it is. This car competes on performance with cars costing much more money. Every penny counts and even if I hadn't put in the leather piece the car still looks and runs like a thoroughbred.
