CCW wheels with clearcoat. Any pics and opinions from owners?
Can anyone who has clearcoated CCW's step in here with pictures and advice/opinion on the clearcoat finish?
I am deciding on wheels and am leaning towards the CCW 505a.
I was told to have the CCW's clearcoated for the most trouble free finish.
I am curious to see how much of the "shine" is dulled by the clearcoat.
John does not offer a clearcoat or chrome finish directly from CCW.
So, I need to get a referral for the best vendor to apply the clearcoat or chrome finish to the CCW.
I am in the Philadelphia metro area and would like to find a local vendor for the finish.
Any help would be appreciated.

You can always get the CCW 505's in the chrome from West Coast Corvettes if you want less maintenance. I was seriously considering those, but have ordered some Iforged wheels in chrome. WCC told me that they weren't sure if they came from CCW, but John at CCW told me that they are his wheels. WCC sends them out and has them chromed.

I don't like the added weight and expense of chrome.
I don't want to worry about the chrome peeling either.
At the same time,
I refuse to polish bare polished rims in the dead of winter.
I want to see how much the clearcoat dulls the "shine" of the polish for myself either via posted pics or in person.
I'd love to hear from some owners on this one.

I had some 2001 wheels which had a poor factory finish. I stripped the factory clear coat and then had them polished at a polishing shop. Then I had them clear powder coated. The powder coating did tone down the shine a little but they were so highly polished from the polishing shop that they still came out very close to chrome.
I can't seem to find any pictures, wheels were replaced with some Mallett wheels years ago. I did run them for about 18 months though and they held up great and cleaned up real easy. I'd go that route again, maybe sooner than later...Gonna order an 08 and might have to give the gumbys a shine.

I have the 505a's that have been clear powder coated. I had the wheels for almost two years before I did this. I spent alot of time polishing them and decided I had enough.
As for the look, They are not as brilliant as they are new. The coating does subdue them a little. They do have a little texture now also. I have had stuff powder coated for years and it can't be beat. On my trucks, I do things like wheels and bumpers. They hold up to off road use.
I use a local shop here in Oregon, but you should have one near you. Just ask around to see if they do a good job.
This is not a great shot, but for now it will have to do:

I'll be in the market for the 505a's soon when I get my 08' coupe. Do the Chromed CCWs really weight that much more? how does the weight compare to the GM factory chrome wheels?

I wanted high polish aluminum CCW wheels so I would never clear coat them. However it makes a big difference if your vette is a DD and what kind of weather you drive in. Roads treated with salt and sand are no doubt very hard on uncoated aluminum wheels. Mine is garaged winters and since it’s not a DD keeping my CCW's polished isn't very difficult. I usually polish them off the car twice a year over an 8 month time span. It usually takes about 4 hours which includes removing, remounting and polishing the inside barrels. I have found a product that seems to work much longer then Rejex at keeping them protected and shined. If you like the look of high polished aluminum it does take more work. All sprayed on clear coat products I’ve seen dull the wheels some what. I'm willing to put a little more work into mine and stay clear of clear coating..........

Your wheels look great!
Your post and pic just made up my mind for me!
What size wheels and what size tires are on your car in that pic?
CCW 505a's with clear powdercoating it is!
Can anyone recommend a good powedercoating vendor in the Philadelphia area?
I assume it would be best to have a local vendor do the clear powedercoating just in case I have any issues down the road.

If you don't find someone to do them, PM me and I will send you the name and address of my powder coater. They charged me $150.00 for all four.
Who ever does them make sure they warranty them from yellowing too.
Glad to help and I hope you are happy with them when you get them!

My wheels and tires are stock size wheels with stock tires. I originally purchased them from West Coast Corvette. They are a forum sponsor and give discounts. I would call them and ask if they would powder coat them. They do the chroming and may actually warranty them. I have had very good luck dealing with them. Their customer service is good.

How is the process different between painted clearcoat and powdercoated clearcoat?
What exactly was done to coat your wheels?
I was aware of chrome "peeling",
but I wasn't aware of powdercoating "yellowing".
How do I avoid the "yellowing" and what will you do if you have that problem with your wheels in the future?
All of these issues are why I would like to find a Philadelphia area vendor to do the coating on my wheels.
Any recommendations ??????
2006Corvette-
I really like your centercaps.
I want to use centercaps that are as flush with the wheel as possible like the HREs.
How many centercaps are available for the 505a?
I have been told clearcoat is the least likely to have issues and the easiest to maintain.
So, I am leaning towards the clear.
I also have to point out that Patrick's clear powdercoated CCWs appear to have almost as much "shine" as the chromed CCWs your pics.
I'd love to see some side-by-side pics of CCWs in both clear powdercoated and chromed to see how much of a difference in "shine" there really is.
