Default Removing baked on tar spots from exhaust?

I finally got around to cleaning the insides of my exhaust tips last night, (for the 2nd time ever), only to find there were lots of what appears to be tiny little tar spots that would not come off with bug and tar remover. I think it's pretty baked on now. What do you suggest to get this stuff off?

Order the polishing kit from CF vendor Pipedreams, and you'll be very happy with your results!!

I know this sounds wierd but Gasoline works awesome. I saw them use it at a detail shop once.

Thanks, I'm gonna try lighter fluid 1st, since it's the most handy, and if that doesn't work, I'll try gas. Want to use something that's already around the house if I can.

Let it sit in the sun for a litte while and that will soften up the tar spots. Then use a little WD-40 and they should come right off.

. . . and if those don't work, try some brake cleaner spray. If you can, buy the type with a chlorinated solvent (perchloroethylene); it works better. But this type is illegal in Kalifornia and other socialist states.

Default Lighter fluid worthless

Did I mention this stuff has been baked on for months? Gasoline is next, then if that doesn't work, it's brake cleaner. May give WD a quick try, but I'm not at all optomistic.

I can't get my stock exhaust tips to shine as advertised. Glad that you got the tar off from them. I will have to remember that tip.

Spray liberally with WD-40, let soak for 5-10 minutes........Use bug sponge pad, U can buy at any Wal-mart or auto store, dry and polish with Mother's metal polish........ Hope that helps.
