Outside Temperature Gauge is Stuck
My outside temperature gauge on my A/C control screen seems to be thinking it's only 77 degrees all day today. Right now it is a bonafide 90 degrees with 93% Humidity down here in Louisiana. I wish it was right. Maybe it is just the car having wishful thoughts like me.
Has anyone else experienced this glitch? Should I worry about it? Will it heal itself? Your comments and experiences with this will be appreciated.

I know mine's not a C6, however the sensor itself is probably pretty much the same in my C5. There was one day a few years ago when my outside temperature display was stuck at 69F for an entire day, even though it was much hotter outside. The problem never returned. So hopefully the same will happen to you.

I thought the same thing before. After you drive over a certain speed for a certain amount of time, it will update the temp. It has to do with the climate control. It is in the owners manual too.

There is also a sensor located behind the front bumper.
This sensor reads the outside air temperature and
helps to maintain the temperature inside the vehicle.
Any cover on the front of the vehicle could give a false
reading in the temperature.
If the outside temperature goes up, the displayed
temperature will not change until:
• The vehicle’s speed is above 10 mph (16 km/h) for
five minutes.
• The vehicle’s speed is above 32 mph (52 km/h) for
two and a half minutes. These delays prevent false readings. If the temperature
goes down, the outside temperature will be shown
when you start the vehicle. If it has been turned off for
less than three hours, the temperature will be recalled
from the previous vehicle operation.

But in his original post he's telling us it's been stuck at the same temperature all day

Maybe I imagined this, but I had an issue with mine if I had a cell phone in my cup holders, the temps did not update... Maybe I didn't wait the 5 minutes, but when I moved it, it updated...

I had a problem like that in my C5. I replaced the temp. probe and that corrected it. It's just a short, about 4 inches, plastic tip that fits on the end of a wire in the air duct for the radiator. I think it was less than $10.

To clarify, I'll bet I haven't met the conditions to make the gauge update. I'm only a couple of miles from work, and it's traffic lights all the way, and less than 5 minutes, there and back, with no opportunity to go over 45. It's probably been doing it, I just never noticed it. I'll keep an eye on it. After work I'll take her out of town and get her over 45 for over 10 minutes. I've been needing to do that anyway!

mine needed to have the sensor replaced. I bet yours will too. Mine did exactly what your is doing and then would work for a week then not then update then get stuck.
You can try two things
1) unplug your HVAC fuse and see if that helps
2) you can manually update your OAT by depressing the Fan UP, defog, defrost buttons simultaneously.

Final Update
OK....
Took the car out on the highway, drove 65 for about 3 minutes....temperature changed from 77 to 97 (which is right). Boy, that owners manual knows what it's talking about. Thanks guys for your help!

I'm sorry to tell you that it is probably not working properly...I have the same defect for the last four months...no use trying to get it fixed because it is intermittent...when the car was new it would update the temperature very quickly but now mine is stuck at one temperature for hours at a stretch...if I go on an on-ramp fast then sometimes it frees up the sensor...good luck.

I never understood why my C6 outside temp takes 5-10 minutes to finally give an accurate reading after I pull it out of the garage. The Chevy service department said this is normal. The gauge in my Escalade and STS are accurate with a minute or two. Same for my Lincoln LS.
