Program the FOB?!!
What's the secret? I can't get the DIC to wake up after turning the key five times within five seconds as instructed in the manual. It is a 2005 automatic. Thanks.

Actually I got it to work...to a point. First tip is to turn the trunk hatch key all the way to the right almost to the point of breaking it off. But apparently my car already had three fobs programmed so the new one was #4 by default. What I really want to do is reprogram them all by clearing using the three ten minute programming period as provided in the manual but I can't get that function to work.
I want a #1 and #2 fob so the memory settings all work. Any tips?

I had the same problem -- the DIC would *never* wake and go into program fob mode, no matter how hard I turned the key or how fast/slow I turned it.
Here's what worked for me.
1) Start engine, put in reverse (if manual). Shut off car.
2) Jump out of car, RUN to the back, insert key, open hatch, and then turn key 5 times *before* the instruments/DIC black out from step #1.
On my car, I had about 10-15 seconds after shut down to get to the back of the car and turn the key 5 times
This works for me every time -- let me know if it works for you too, ok?
Cheers,
Kent

Waking thread from the dead.
I understand what mb was trying to do. Here's some more explanation, mine is a 2011.
Let's say I lost FOB #1, and still have FOB #2. Got a new #1 FOB, but trying to program the new one, from procedure in the user manual when you have at least one programmed FOB in the car with you, it wants to program the new one as FOB #3. I can't get it to start over so I can reprogram FOB #1 as 1.
So I tried the alternate way which is used if you don't have a programmed FOB, which has to do with putting the FOB in the slot in the glove box, and doing the turn the trunk key procedure (10 minutes per FOB). But the problem is that it see's the FOB in the glove box slot as already programed.
I was hopeing this would clear out the FOB programming memory, as mb was trying to do.
I tried Kent's procedure, but you have to have the FOB in the glove box, and it didn't work at all for me.
Has anyone been able to get this to work? I'm just trying to avoid having to find time to go to the dealer to have them reprogram them.
Thanks in advance,
Kevin

My car came with only one FOB, and it had a #2 on the top. The new one I bought had a # 1 on top. I wanted to flush the car's settings and tried several times. What finally worked was to have all FOBs out of range, turn the key five times, and wait out the 30 minute cycle. Now my FOBs are in the right order. Peace an Harmony prevails! (but with a little cursing along the way)
