Default Which additional coolers are actually in the Z51 for 2008?

Which additional coolers are really in the 2008 Z51 package for a Paddle-Shift Automatic?

Are Manual and Automatic cars are equipped diffrently when ordered with the Z51 package?

What is really installed in Z51 equipped cars?

Engine Oil Cooler?
Transmission Cooler?
Power-Steering Cooler?
Differential Cooler?

I know over the years GM deleated coolers in the past and did not mention it in sales data. GM only list "additional cooling" as part of the Z51 package? They do not list the actual additional coolers.

Anyone with a 2008 Z51 read their build sheets?

Are people paying for items they think they are getting and not getting them?

I know for sure that the Z51 option has a nicely sized EXTERNAL oil cooler mounted in front of the radiator on the drivers side of the air damn. Much more efficient and way better for a track day...I am very glad GM did this.

Past policy of the NCM has been to make copies of the build sheets available after the close of the model year. I'm not sure...you may get a build sheet with your museum delivery. Build sheets are no longer available from plant personnel. It's possible no one has their build sheets yet for 2008.

On the other hand, it should be fairly easy to determine how many coolers the car has by the "forensic" evidence.

Let's start by saying that it definitely has a transmission cooler...ALL automatic transmission equipped cars have had fluid coolers since dirt was new. You can see evidence of this by supply and return fluid tubes connecting to the passenger side radiator tank.

Check the driver side radiator tank for supply and return tube connections...if it has those, it has an engine oil cooler.

Edit: After reading 1.8t's post above, I believe I remember reading that here as well...the Z51 engine oil cooler has been made an external cooler same as the Z06 beginning in 2008(?). You should be able to see it by looking down in front of the radiator or from underneath. The engine oil heat exchanger can be seen below and in front of the radiator. My mistake.

If it has the power steering fluid cooler, you will see a tubular finned object about 18"-20" lying in plain sight transversely between the radiator and the engine near the power steering rack. That object is the power steering fluid cooler.

Z51 equipped C6s have never had a differential fluid cooler, regardless of transmission type. They only have a fluid temperature sensor with DIC text warning of high fluid temperature...no temp value is given, but you can infer some information from the alarm point (it's in the service manual; I don't know for sure, but maybe 300 deg).

But I'll bet you have the 6-speed. As far as I know, the A6 doesn't have it.

I have an 06 Z51. The promotional color pictoral brochure that was provided to me at delivery states the following on the Buyer's Guide page:
"Z51 Performance package includes Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar Extended Mobility Tires; cross-drilled brake rotors; performance tuned springs, shocks, and stabilizer bars; additional cooling for power steering, engine oil, and transmission fluids; and special gear ratios for manual transmission."
There is no diifference indicated between MN6 And A6 models except for the gear ratio statement noted.

LOL...Yeahh, those statements are good for the standard car with the Z51 option. Throw in the OPTIONAL automatic and things change as we've seen. You didn't get mislead...Just a "Gotcha"...

Other than purchasing a ZO6, the best bang for the buck off the assembly line.

Here is a link to the thread. It looks like manual Z51's had them before 2008 also. Don't know about automatics?

Tranny and engine oil coolers have been part of the Z51 package since 05. Power steering coolers have been a Z51 item since the C5. It is possible the 08s have upgraded to the Z06 engine oil cooler.

You can buy your 2008 build sheet at NCM if you do the delivery there.

A6 Z51s did not have the oil cooler through '07.

OK, let's put this to rest with concrete evidence. I have an A6 08 with Z51. I will take a picture of cooler or no cooler, if someone will explain exactly what I should look for.

Best would be a picture from an 08 MN6 Z51 pointing out the cooler -- that way I could match it.

That's what we need to end this discussion once and for all. I can tell you about LS2 but not LS3. I would bet it is the same but can't be sure so...

Sorry, my comment referred to the MZ6 cars. The Autos use the oil cooler segment on the radiator to circulate and cool the ATF. Engine oil cooling is assumed un-necessary on th autos because the engine will see less severe duty than it would in an M6 car.

Also, the Manual "trans cooler" is just a fluid circuit, not a true external cooler. You can purchase GMPP trans and diffy coolers but these are expensive and ironically void the warranty for those parts.

In response to the OP, there are likely no changes to the trans and diff cooling systems (no reason to change those), and the engine probably gets an upgrade to the Z06 cooler.
