What's a good paint job cost?
I would eventually like to have my C6 painted a different color. Obviously and want the best paint job I can get. What is the cost of a good paint job?

We had our '74 convertible repainted in 2000. All emblems, door handles, everything was removed, paint stripped and repainted the same color. It was a first-class job and cost $5,000 at that time. We are very fussy and couldn't have been happier with the job. I can only imagine what it would cost today. Our feeling is that you really do get what you pay for.
One of the biggest issues is that you want a change of color. That means even more work to be done right.
My advice is to shop around carefully, contact Corvette clubs in your area and ask for references.

A decent color change done properly is going to cost 8k to 10k, anything substantially less than that and it will not be done properly. The paint and materials alone can run several thousand dollars, and its a LOT of labor to remove panels and do it the correct way.

Can't speak for a Corvette, but when I had my 1977 MGB painted back in 1999, it ran $3000. That was for several coats, wet sanding along the way, door jambs, trunk interior and most nooks-n-crannies. Didn't do the engine bay since the engine needed to be rebuilt and I said I'd have the engine bay painted when I pulled the engine.

It's going to depend on your location, and exactly what kind of paint job you're looking at.
If you're just looking for a color change and expect about the same quality as OEM, expect around the $4000 mark. If you're looking for something show quality, with hand blocking, wet sanding and polishing, you can be looking at anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000. This of course would be determiend by products used, how far off the deep end you want to go etc.
I just had my 1969 Firebird painted. I used an OEM GM color, so the paint wasn't hugely expensive. With the car being soda blasted, hand blocked, sprayed, color sanded and polished. I am doing all of the reconstrution of mirrors, locks etc. It cost me $5700 for this paint job.
In Californai it would have been closer to $10,000.

It does depend an awful lot on just exactly how good a job you want, and how long you want it to last. In the early to mid-90s, a restoration paint job to bring a Corvette up to NCRS or Bloomington Gold was $8K-$10K in many major cities. Times have changed, but prices haven't gone down.
While some of it is in the materials, a lot of it is the labor. Many of the CF C6 members have older Vettes, so hopefully they will answer. Again, depending on how good a job you want, ask NCRS members, or go to the various forums that have lots of those members, i.e., here on C1, C2 even C3 and C4, but less than the first two.

Minimum $5000 to just look good, OEM type quality, but details may suffer, up to about $10,000 for top quality with the details addressed. Good luck.

If you are staying with the same color, than you should be able to save a couple thousands... If changing color, than you have to fork out the rest.

If anyone tells you less than 5k.....RUN! The average person has no idea the time it takes to do a high quality paint job. It becomes an absolute pain in the butt when you change colors on a vehicle. I also would like to say that 80% of the body shops will go out of their way to save money on materials especially if you haggled with them in the beginning to get the price below what they originally wanted. If you go to a reputable shop who has a good painter that is paid commission, then I would suggest that you come to and agreement on price with the boss, and then privately talk to the man who will be painting your car and tell him that there will be a $500 bonus upon your approval of the completed job. You can't even imagine how much of a difference this can make as he will have this in mind while working on your vehicle. Just some advice from someone who knows. Good luck!

i paid about 6k for the paint job.......
not including the black headlights and other stuff
...and i thought i got a good deal
just find a good shop
they did the interior too
the shop that did it did a perfect job,
it took almost 2 months to do, had the whole shop tied up........
it is really a restoration job, they have to take the car apart
good luck
do a cool custom color

I have a paint and body shop and we do dealer only cars for a funeral hearse and limo company. We change colors on brand new Cadillac coach cars, limos and hearses for around 4k. They bring about three to four a month so they get a huge discount. I have other wholesalers and dealers that pay around 6k. I have done a few off the street changes colors for private individuals and I always charge around 8 to 10k on those. Materials alone run around 2k for OEM colors.
Wherever you go check the work, check the shop, call past customers, demand top quality materials, get everything in writing, and feel good with the owners/employees doing the work.
Good luck!
