Default Walmart oil filters

Was in my local Walmart last night to p.u. medical prescription. While there I went to the automotive department. Noticed they had their own brand of oil filters for the 2006 C6. Does any one know who makes their oill filters. They also had an oil filter wrench which fits the AC Delco PF 46 filter for $2.99.

The Supertech filters at Walmart are made by Champion Labs, who also makes the K&N, Mobil 1, Bosch Premium and STP.

The Supertech is a very good filter! Probably the best filter out there for under $5. It's better than the AC Delco, without a doubt.

actually I just bought a PF48, it is made by the same company that makes Supertech and Mobil1, the PF48 and Supertech look to be made exactly the same. the Supertech will not void your warrantee

the only filter I consider a "step up" is the PureOne

I find it amusing that you are trusting your life with employees in WALMART(yes,I know they're trained pharmacists) (PRESCRIPTION) and question the oil filter for the vette!!
So,is the filter a good one or not?

I'm not sure why you'd want to save a tiny amount of money on a cheap oil filter for your $50K Vette. However, here's info on the various brands out there: http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy.html#b2

It's generally recognized that Baldwin makes the best oil filters one can get.

It's true, some of the AC Delco filters are made by Champion Labs as well, but not all of them. So you don't always know for sure what you're getting with AC Delco, they use a few suppliers. They may appear the same externally to the Supertech, but the media on the AC Delco is not quite as good, even on the Champion Labs built ones. Keep in mind that an OEM filter has to make more sacrifices than a typical aftermarket filter. They don't want it to clog up if the person doesn't change their oil for 4 years, so the media is typically not going to filter out as small of a particle as other filters will. The AC Delco filters also do not use the better silicone antidrainback valves, they use nitrile instead.

Thanks for the useful site, which I hadn't seen before. The author's conclusion is:

"In summary, I think it would be fair to say Baldwin, Kubota, Donaldson and AMSOIL are each in a league of their own with no dispute over their superior quality. There were many just plain good automotive filters that meet OEM specifications, but with no outstanding characteristics. Wix provided the most information on its filters, but still left a lot to be desired. If any machinery is in warranty, be sure to only use the OEM’s filter line, no matter who makes it."

I'll try to be gentile.

You have a $50k car and your going to put in a Walmart Oil Filter?

Are you freggin nuts?

K&N and Mobile 1 filters are the best - made by the same company. I don’t use anything else.

As mentioned above, the Walmart Supertech filter is made by the same guys who make the K&N and Mobil 1! The K&N and Mobil 1 use a stronger canister, but the filtering media of the Supertech is pretty close in quality.

People need to get over the fact that it's a low cost filter and look at it for what it really is, it's a very well built unit that just happens to be priced better than just about any oil filter on the market. That doesn't mean it's not good! I wouldn't hesitate to put one on my car if they sold them up here, but our Walmarts only carry Fram (which I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole!)
