Default XM disappeared!

Ok - bear with me here. Im one of the few who likes XM so save the flames. Today, drove my car on an errand and everything was working fine. Got in my car about 2 hours later to go home, and the XM was gone - literally. Pushed the band button and all I got was AM, FM1 and FM 2. No XM at all - Im in the middle of my subscription so that shouldnt be a problem but shouldnt it still be there when you push the band button even if I didnt have a subscription. AM and FM radio work fine and so does the CD - I have an 06 3LT with the 6 CD in dash radio. I have driven the car twice more today and no XM. Anybody have any ideas or has this happened to anyone?

I had the same exact thing happen to me. I called xm radio and they said they would send out a signal and 10 minutes later it started working and i haven't had a problem since. Not sure why it occurred. Give them a call. They should be able to fix it.

First thing I would do is check the connections to the XM unit. When it is unplugged or not being recognized it produces the same results. The connections on the XM box side are easy to check. They are harder to get to behind the radio itself.

It should not drop the XM from the head unit for lack of XM signal. It would just revert to channel 1.

I have that happen, but I have a aux. audio device I need to remove to determine if it's the device or the connector to my sirius unit.

Generally speaking if I just restart the car the satellite button comes back on my nav radio.

The same thing has happened to me two or three times in the last year and I've replaced the XM unit with Sirius. All I did was turn off the car and then back on and all was well. I think there is some type of timing issue with the head unit. If the XM (or Sirius) unit doesn't get some connection hot within a certain period of time, the head then assumes there isn't an XM. Turning off the radio doesn't work, you need to turn off the car and then back on.

Exactly, I had always hoped that off/on cycle of the radio would reactive the connection.

Anyone know of a way to...er... for lack of a better term... reboot the radio so it can get see that the satellite radio is there and ready to use?

I've had it happen once to my SIR-GM1 just am, fm1 and fm2 so I turned to car off and back on and it came back...not sure why it dissapeared in the first place though.

The usual suspect in the event of the XM band disappearing from the head unit is an intermittent/loose or lost connection from the cable at the XM box behind the drivers side wheel well. Usually a quick disconnect, reconnect will do the trick and bring it back. It happens most frequently to folks that have added a Sirius or Ipod adapter at that location. It would be worth checking since it is relatively easy to do first.

I had the same problem with my '07. I disconnected the battery for about 10 minutes then re-connected and the problem went away.
but give it at least 5 to10 minutes. the first time I tried it I only disconnected for about 30 seconds with no result for some reason.
Someone on the forum told me that disconnecting the battery can solve a lot of electrical problems, that seems to hold true so far.

Way to go!!! You dredged up a record 3988 day (10 years, 11 months and 1 day) old thread.. outstanding!!! Watch, as the replies from the almost 11 year old original post answer a question for a guy that may no longer even be alive!!!

If you have a question, please feel free to ask it. Some will tell you to search for the answer, but most will answer your question. There are very few new questions to be asked. But, if no one asked a question and just searched for an answer, this place would really just be a FAQ repository and not a discussion forum...

And just a quick and polite reminder, please let the really old threads die...

Oh, and welcome!!!

It also causes you to have to reset the window indexing. And the thread you revived was started by a forum member who hasn't posted in the last 4 years.
