Rear Pannel Replacement

Rear Pannel Replacement
I live in Sunny California and I was out driving in the rain yesterday and was stopped at a light and someone slid into the back of my 2007, 6 speed, C6, and smashed my rear pannel in. Has anyone had experience with rear pannel body work? Did the damage spread anywhere beyond the rear pannel into hidden under areas? Where there any lessons learned? This impact was less than 5 mph and I was stopped with the break on, and the transmission in neutral.
From now on I am not going to drive my vert in the rain, not because of the car itself, but because of all the other idiots out there. In the future when it rains I will be driving my Duramax Diesel!
Thanks Jim

There have been previous threads where people have been hit and looks like no damage but there was damage under the panel. Get it checked. My buddy got rear ended a few weeks ago in Miami I think he had considerable damage. Best to get it looked at.

I got rear ended in a parking lot. The damage looked only minimal on the outside, some paint cracking and ripples. But looks are deceiving. When the took off the rear cap to inspect, they needed to replace a couple other crash related safety items that are behind the cap. Bill was about $2k for parts, labor, and paint.

I got rear ended in another vehicle. There was no visible damage but over $1600 in hidden damage. Definitely get it checked.
There are idiot drivers in dry weather too.

Talked to the body shop. Have over $4,000 in damages, which includes a new rear bumber, energizer pad, and rear pannel.
Looks like there was no frame or mechanical damage. We will see how the whole thing comes out.
My girl friend says I need a Priest or a Shrink, and not a Collision Repair shop!
