Default How long does the fiberglass smell last?

Another stupid new owner question...
This is my first new Corvette... actually my first Corvette of any type. I was wondering how long the new car (boat?) smell lasts.

I am sure loving the car.

I think one of our forum vendors sells that smell in a spray can.

Interesting observation - that's exactly how I describe the smell of my car to friends; like a new boat. Mine will be a year old in May and still has that new boat smell.

Mine lasted a while too...until I started moding the interior with leather products from Gerardo @ Down South Vette's Now she has that awesome "new car" leather smell all of the time .

It smells like a boat? I never knew that. I always thought it was the interior leather, plus other "space-age" materials.

Depends on ambient temperature (and your sense of smell ). Four or five months in Texas during the summer.

Every C4+ Corvette I've owned has had a unique "burning rubber" smell from the engine compartment after a long drive. I've never noticed any new "boat" smell, but then I've never been around a new boat.

EXACTLY like a boat. great memories of all my new boats when i went into the garage for the first six months! i have a vert and for the first ten months the trunk smelled foul. must have been the carpet and/or glue . which is strange because my buddy (a.k.a. petiebear) had a black vert built about seven cars ahead of mine and he swore that his trunk did not smell bad, go figure .

In mine it is clearly the fiberglass body. I think mine is 'fresh' because it was only on the dealer's lot for about 2 weeks. I am sure that the smell from the resin will take a while to completely go away.

Forever in my garage, 'cause I'm always fixing my kids surfboard.
As for my C6, it still smells new too.

I've had my 'o8 for 5 mts, and the damn smell is still there...it's really irritating me and my wife.
I don't think the scent lasted that long in my '04.

Whatever you are smelling it certainly is not "fiberglass". The Corvette body panels are made from SMC.

Daily driver here and it took about a month to go away. Either that or I am used to it!

It's actually a resin smell used in the SMC aka. re-enforced plastic panels.
