Default Coming of Runflats

In what model year did Chevy begin putting runflat tires on Vettes?

Thanks,

Gburg

C5 (1997) would be my guess. That's when the spare tire went away.

Default Runflats

I ordered RFs on my 94 C4. GY GSC EMTs, $70 plus Low Tire Pressure Warning System. The car was a DD and they saved me lots of grief.I believe this was the first time available.

It was an option on the C4 in 96.

It was an option sometime in the C4 era but I'm not sure when it started. I'd guess about 94

The 1994 Corvette brochure is the first brochure showing runflats as an option. They are also first listed as a 1994 option (WY5) at a cost of $70 per:

The Corvette Black Book shows RPO WY5 as an option for $70 for the first time in the 1994 model year vettes. They are described as "Tires, Extended Mobility", and 2781 C4s out of the 23,330 made that year had the option.

They were still an option for the 95 & 96 MYs, but you also had to order RPO UJ6, Low Tire Pressure Indicator for $325. They could not be ordered on a car with RPO Z07 (adjustable suspension package) or RPO ZR-1 (special performance package in 95).

You mean there is no spare tire in my 08? I had no idea. I should really read the manual. I figured it is under the back floor of my coupe. I better take a look.

Yes. Now when you rotate the tires, you don't have to include a spare in the rotation.

I actually saw a salesman back in the C5 days on his hands and knees looking for the spare after a customer asked him where it is... I don't think the salesman was happy when I explaned the obvious to the customer.

That's correct. They first became standard equipment on the C5 (with the exception of the C5 Z06), and now on all C6s. The C5 Z06 had a 'fix-a-flat' kit instead of a spare.

So you can only swap them front to back on the same side?

At the Del Mar Grand Prix (San Diego), in the early 90's, they had a demonstration. C4 Vette running around the track with at least one flat. It may have been four, it's a long time to remember for sure.

Sorry, I didn't know there was anyone here who didn't know what was for. It's not obvious that you can't rotate tires not the same size?

Please wake up before your next post.
