Default Canceling Cruise Control

Traffic permitting, I always use cruise control on the highway to prevent speed creep. I wanted to share my method of canceling when braking is not necessary. Just the slightest lift of the parking brake lever works. No need to tap the brake pedal.

Seems to me it is more succinct to tap the break pedal w/ your foot, which does not require taking a hand from the steering wheel.

maybe I am missing something here but I just turn my CC off with the lever when I don't want it to be active. once I get back to needing it I just flip it back on.

Might be safer to tap the brake since it lets the vehicle behind you know you're slowing. Just a thought.

I guessI better sign up for cruise control 101!

I personally use cruise on the highway and it works great

I have found that I get better mileage rowing the gears on

two lanes than I do on the interstate at relatively the same speed

Any thoughts or am I nuts.............

But don't you lose your pre-set speed? Doing it the way suggested (probably) lets you hit "resume" and you're back up to your old speed.

I only have one hand on the steering wheel anyways, the other is usually resting on the gear.

The computer does not retain the previously set speed in its memory when you use the switch to turn it off.

If you just push in the set button it coasts until you let go of it. It then goes up one MPH and stays there when you let go.

I can keep both hands on the steering wheel that way and just use one finger to push.

Several points
1. I didn’t say YOU had to do this. I really don’t care if you turn the engine off to cancel cruise control. I have degenerative arthritis in my right knee so the less I have to move my leg the better. I was just sharing another way of getting the job done.
2. I don’t live in LA any longer, I live in rural Tennessee. When appropriate I do use the brake pedal. When you switch off the cruise, you cannot use resume. I guess it’s pretty obvious dpigguy and cylon don’t know what the resume function is for, huh.
3. It appears that paying money to be a senior member some how makes some of these posting an expert on everything. While I am new to the forum, I am a mechanical design engineer and have over 40 years experience in the automotive industry. At times I have been responsible for proofing and editing owner’s and repair manuals. Too bad most owners don’t read their manual. I won’t insult the forum experts by posting any further information, or ideas. At least Mad*Max understands.

Cheers

there is a little switch on the stalk, when pulled away from the wheel will turn off CC, slightly pressing the clutch will also shut CC off

Everyone is different. Me, I use a VERY light tap on the clutch, I don't like to light the brake lights unless I want the traffic behind me to see I'm braking. just a habit.
