Default 2005 C6 problems I should be aware of.....

I have a friend who is literally dying to sell his 6 speed 2005 C6 (it doesnt have navigation or the Z51/heated seats, so I dont know what package it is......yet) to upgrade to a 2009 model.

Of course, the dealership offered him squat for a trade-in even though it only has 27,XXX miles-so he offered it to me at $200.00 more than the dealership offered him.

A smokin' deal to be sure, and I really love the look and feel of the C6. My only question to you fine folks is this: should I be concerned about the 2005 year model? I've heard that the transmission has given alot of 2005 owners some serious issues........is this true? And if so, is there anything else I should be worried about too?

I'll be selling my C5 Z06 if I decide to buy this, and I really really want to avoid drving something that would be a money pit. I even thought about just picking up an '06/07 if there are too many issues with the '05. What year did the GM 5 year/100,000 warranty apply-because that will factor into my decision as well.

Thank you for your appreciated input, and I look forward to being a part of the C6 clan!

The 5-year/100K warranty started with the 2007 model year.

I've not read that many posts where people had problems with the tranny. One problem was the delaminating tops (colored tops) and DBS. However, a frequent cause of DBS was not shutting off the engine with the manual tranny in REVERSE. We're talking about the 05s.

DBS?

Thanks jim, I really do appreciate your opinion on this matter. I would really like to purchase the C6 from my friend, but am very wary of any problems it might have. (lord knows the C5 has its share)

The only problem I had with my 05 6 speed was a bulletin on the flywheel. The dealer replaced it N/C. I dont know about the delaminateing roof problems, because I bought a glass roof when I bought the car and its been on ever since.

I have an 05 coupe and have had zero problems with it. I think it shifts a lot slicker than my C5 did. No problems at all with the battery either. Still have the original battery in it. Just remember to put it in reverse when you shut it off. If you try to leave it in any other gear, the car with give you a couple of horn toots to remind you that something is amiss when you get out of the car.

I also have not had any problems with my 05 Coupe. The Battery is Original. The only issue I had to deal with is the Onstar Analog to Digital Upgrade. Otherwise, everything works perfectly.

Aaron-
I've got an early 2005 built Sept.`04 and it's been virtually problem free . . .had the roof serviced under recall (delamination) and no problems since . . .car now has 22k.

`05's are a great value these days - -especially if you know the history on the car - - I'd have no reluctance whatsoever.

Feel free to PM me if you want any other info. Good luck -

DBS, as coined on this board, refers to an unexplained battery drain that occurs with 2005 MN6 cars properly shut down in reverse. It does not refer to drains caused by user error.

The culprit was a series of software anomolies that were addressed by a TSB calling for a computer reflash which eliminated the causes of the problem. Any 2005 not shut down properly will drain the battery, but that's not DBS.

46000 miles. solved DBS(dead battery syndrone) with a new battery. No de-lam top problems. T-56 tranny has no problems. Do you have a 04 ZO6? cause I see the LMB color in your avatar. The problem in the 05 is in the rear ends. Don`t do to many hard (high RMP) launches. You may be calling a towtruck. Rearends were strengthened in 06.

my 05 now has 48000 miles and it has been solid as a rock. Nothing to worry about assuming your friend maintained the car properly.

Default No problems

Other than the weaker rear end, most issues are easily fixed through recall or tsb. Ask your friend if any have been done.

I too have an '05 and trouble free. There's a great performance shop locally if you're interested in mods/advice/upgrades. You can (relatively) easily turn these base vettes into seriously fun 500+hp beasts with a little money (heads, cam, intake, headers, tune, etc...) if interested.

Nice zip code you chose!
