LS2 Certified Horsepower—For LS2 guys
#22
But in the here and now, I find it interesting that the LS2, 3, 6, etc. outgun the "legendary muscle" that some like to put on a pedestal. The fact that the modern cars do that while dealing with lower octane fuel and modern emissions, fuel economy and safety regs is all the more impressive.

What the hell does ANYTHING really matter in the end?

Anytime you put something up here which is informative, detailed, well researched, and well written, there will always be those with short attention spans who will tell you that you have "too much time on your hands."
Perhaps they have too little time on their's.
Nice write up.
As Donald Trump says, "When you really get down to it, we're all just passing the time until we die."

The fact is anyone on this forum is wasting time, but we're enjoying it.

The LS3 is a larger and better breathing engine v. the LS2. That's a fact. I wouldn't stay awake at night worrying about it though.

You Fool! You missed a coma! All that material is RUBBISH! Start over! Do it again!
After reading the title, I was all set to come in here and make some sarcastic comment about not feeling inferior. After reading it, GREAT write-up.
Although I will agree that you've probably got a bit too much time on your hands...

that was a fascinating read! Really enjoyed it and brought back a lot of memories of those muscle cars! I've said for years they were great cars IN THEIR TIME but simply don't compare with todays! We have 12 sec vettes that squeeze 30 mpg+ on the highway. Just try that with any of that old iron/plastic machines...

I have to admit that I always bench raced magazine and real-street data in my head, especially when it comes to other makes under or over-rating their hp.
It's good to see it laid out all in one spot. The only thing worth mentioning that isn't taken into account would be certain intangibles that make engines perform the way they do. Like an engines ability to change speeds (shorter stroke or lighter piston engine designs/lighter flywheels).
One could argue a 5.7 revving quickly to 7000 is better than 6.x liter LSX in a light car, but raw cubes and the new cylinder head on the LS3 is not a trivial update.
thanks for the post.
p.s.- you let the GM engine guy's last name slip through in the 3rd post.
