Talon90, thanks for the post. I've had my Grand Sport for about 5 weeks now and have put 4,000 miles on her, most of which came in getting her back to Cali from Ohio where I bought her. My biggest complaint was the rattle from the roof latch. Thanks to your post, I've fixed that and I wanted to thank you for taking the time to post this solution to a common Corvette problem.

Default Another roof fixed! - C6 Coupe roof panel noise primter - Long post

I just finished installing the Hillman's 5/32" e-clip that I bought at Lowe's in the roof latch rollers of my 2006 Corvette. I also performed all of the cleaning and lubrication steps mentioned, except that I used GM weatherstrip lubricant to lubricate all the weatherstripping on the roof seal areas, as well as watching the excellent "how to" video posted at http://www.corvetteblogger.com/2014/...orvette-coupe/ and I'm very happy to report that after taking the Corvette out for about a two hour ride today in typical Fresno summer 100 degree heat, I didn't hear a single snap, crackle, or pop from the roof the entire time.

I drove over some uneven and bumpy roads, parked outside in the sun for about a half hours -- all the things that would have typically caused a lot of popping, snapping, and crackling noises from the roof. I'm ecstatically happy to report it was completely quiet on the trip. Thank you thank you thank you for the excellent information contained in this post on the forum.

Thanks for the posting. I enjoyed the video and learned something. Mine has been rattle, squeak free since I serviced it last year but it may be time to do it again. Adding the eClips, heat shrink and new o-rings fixed mine but I have saved the video for the next time.

Thank you in advance!
Somewhere in this thread is a copy or a link to the GM bulletin, that will show you where the lube goes.

Basically, any place where the top touches the main car or weatherstrip, you want the lube. And any latches or hardware that can move against each other.

The latest version says to NOT use Superlube on the rubber, they discovered it gets dry and crusty after a while. Use the dielectric silicon grease, you can still use the Superlube on the latches.

Bump for another success. Fixed my creaks by a full detail, torque to spec, heat shrink on all 5 pins, new orings, and dielectric grease on everything. Sounds nice and solid now!

8 years old and this thread still delivers!

There is good stuff here, but it you frequently remove your top, none of it works very long.

If you go back to the beginning of the thread you will see where Talon 90 has posted pictures that have been taken down by Photobucket. If you click on the photos and read through the thread you should find some help there.

As an additional update, after having a conversation with Talon90 I come to find out that the creak/pop was fixed with some new parts for C6's through the '09 MY.

But, I have a '12 and it has the same problem. It would appear that the creak/pop was fixed with the use of an immovable roller on the latch. I assume that worked OK for those C6's mentioned above. What I found on my '12 was by applying a thin coat of White Lithium Grease along the path that the immovable roller follows cured my problem. FWIW I thought I'd pass it on to those who might incur the same problem.

the best advice is to take a wrench or socket and tighten the mounting pegs. Then lube them and add those O rings. Tightening them is the most important.

Mine will still creak when it sits in the sun in a parking lot and will take a few (like 2 or 3) minutes driving for the creaking to go away. If you can't live with a little temporary creaking, then you might not want a targa.

Just an update for those that have tried various things. I added the o rings and it made it better for a few days but now the noise is back and the handles are very hard to open and close compared to without the rings.

Did you tighten the mounting pegs? 15mm wrench or long socket.

Most of my noise comes from the passenger front. It seem pretty tight and don't want to strip it.

IMHO the pegs serve not much more than guide pins with very little play where as the latches are what hold the roof in place. The thread on the latches is pretty course so there is not much chance of stripping them but with that in mind they only go just so tight and I also thought that "O" rings would work and they do for a short time. The fixed "roller" guide is where the problem is and keeping it lubricated is the only way to rid yourself of that horrible creek.
