Default Met Reeves Callaway today..great pics ZR1 and Callaway Vettes

I met with Reeves Callaway and his Callaway program manager Chris Chessnoe today at a local Chevrolet dealership. A few of us ( Bill Masuda, my son Tyler and I) were waiting around to be let into the building and we spent about 20 minutes talking as I had met him 20+ years ago when I worked for Gary Konner of Malcolm Konner Chevrolet fame in Paramus, NJ. We ran the gamut on our talks about his thoughts on the paddle shifter vs 6spd manual...suspension up grades...Supercharged Horsepower...future Callaway creations (waiting for the next generation, C7). I told him how much I liked the hood on the current Supercharged beauty's. Chris told us that Motorweek tested the new Callaway C6 and didn't want to return the car after 4 days of pure enjoyment and I am sure a few devlish turns behind the wheel. Motorweek said that the new Callaway creation is the fastest car they have tested in the 24 years of doing what they do! Now that's saying something! Someday I will get a new Callaway, my old boss Gary Konner still has his gray Callaway 87, and it's the only one built that year in gray. My only regret was not getting a picture with Mr.Callaway near my '06 Daytona Sunset Convt., but the hour I spent in and around him, Chris and the new '09 ZR1 and of course the Callaway Vettes was more then enough adrenaline rush for one short afternoon. I was really glad my 16 yr old son Tyler was able to join us today because he usually is playing one sport or another. Enjoy the pics from today! Mike

1st pic shows from left to right: Chris Chessnoe, myself shaking hands with Reeves Callaway and then Bill Masuda.

That decal comes off very easily...buying the car is the hard part....dollars wise that is.

Shouldn't be on there in the first place. One of my biggest pet peeves with dealers and Vettes.

Dealers credo" Its easier to ask for forgiveness then permission". Most certainly much better then the old days when the dealers metal name was double screwed into the trunk! I had a 1970 442 Convt Indy Pace Car that was originally bought at Haase Oldsmobile in North Bergen,NJ...I remember this little fact because of that double screwed metal name plate on my 442's back trunk. Needless to say I kept it off when restoring said Musclecar.

Ah...speaking as the parent of the same age kiddo, it is the rare, special day when the 16 yr old agrees to spend it with the dear old parent!

Thanks for sharing the story and pix!

Yes it was an awesome experience. They were going to let me test drive the Callaway Vette but I had to head out for the afternoon.

Paul,
I only live 4 miles from there so it was easy for my son and I. Bill lives approx 1 hour South in Northern Virginia. Traffic is minimum on Sundays so I am sure he enjoyed the ride in his '08 Convert. Reeves tried to talk Bill into trading his in on a Callaway Vette. Bill wasn't buying it but we all enjoyed the conversation. After 1 hour passed and I was leaving, Reeves remembered all three of our names and said good bye as such...very impressive. He said he had remembered me from my Malcolm Konner Chevrolet meetings but I seriously doubt it...but still generous of him to say so.
Mike

Oh, trust me, I don't bust him about it because he garners much interest from the girls because of his natural curls! As long as his coaches are ok then I'm ok.
