Default GM Heritage collection to be auctioned off.

well at least part of it. My father just sent it to me and I didn't see this posted anywhere else. I thought I share it here with my fellow Z owners. I ran down the list and remembered quite a few of these cars. Reminds me of when those three Callaways made it across the blocks at BJ 4 years ago for a total price of $250K.

"From Scott Settlemire of GM:

Good afternoon, Camaro Comrades, Firebird Friends,
and Corvette Cousins............

As you may know, the GM Heritage Collection numbers
in the many hundreds of cars and trucks - from 'first
builts' and 'last builts' to one-off show cars to
SEMA show cars.

The Decision has been made to sell off select
vehicles. (Indeed, a sad day for some of us......)

There's a little of everything -- from the Legendary
Buick Blackhawk -- to (are you sitting down?) a
COUPLE of 1989 Corvette ZR1s -- the Jon Moss built
Track-dominating Black 572 ZL1 -- A C5 Alpha and a C5
Beta -- The Tiger Shark -- the LT5 Camaro -- a 1904
Olds Touring -- several GTOS -- both old and new -- a
couple of 1970 muscle cars -- a mid nineties "510"
Impala SS -- and many, many pace cars and trucks.

This may be the time to break open the piggy
bank.................

PLEASE NOTE:

This is a preliminary list -- it is very likely
subject to change -

Barrett-Jackson will, in the coming week or two, put
out pictures of each of these cars on their website.

This is the Scottsdale, AZ auction -- January 13-19,
2009.

Please feel free to share with your club members and
friends.

It's nice to live in PHX in January. Looks like this may be the best BJ ever (did I write that? BJ = Barrett/Jackson). It's a shame about the circumstances. Sad really.

Sad but they aren't selling anything of super rare status or value. ( early 1900 cars, 50's 60's etc...) can you imagine how many transporters they will need to bring all those cars down from Michigan?

I found out about the Heritage cars being auctioned Tuesday from an email associated with the Museum, as I was a part of the Motorama II caravan with my '84 this fall. One of our stops was for a self-guided tour and dinner at the Heritage Center. I too was pondering the logistics of getting these cars to AZ, as if you total the list it is approx. 250. Assuming eight per carrier, which may be optimistic, that would be more than 30 rigs required. Too bad it's come down to this, but as another poster has suggested these aren't all the most revered vehicles in the collection. It'll be interesting to see where they end up...

Where is the money going and for what purpose? Looks to me like a lot of newer "non-classics" and makes me wonder why they felt the need to keep some of them in the first place.

Ok, up until now..I thought you had good taste.

I actually thought about doing just that with my white/black 94' B4C car just before I sold it to buy the JSB Z...had the lingenfelter top end LT5 sitting right next to it.

Some of the other cars on this list are incredible..anyone remember that light weight snake skinner?

I think its great that you (and probably a lot of others) don't like the car. Maybe I could pick it up for a good price.

I'm a child of the 80s and this car screams 1980s. I think that's why I like it. I love the wild colors. Probably also why I've owned 2 other IROCs and a 82 Indy pace car.

Maybe Uncle Sam can buy them. Our tax dollars are often used for historical preservation.

I didn't know what the GM Heritage Collection was, so I searched the Internet and found this article. http://www.autoblog.com/2007/03/15/g...lection-few-w/

I live in Scottsdale but haven't been to the auction in a few years. Thanks for posting this information OP.

We're going to take a break from the crappy weather and head to bj this year. Plan to spend a couple of days there (probably Wed/Thurs) while visiting some friends in Tucson... should be a lot of fun.

Gotta agree, it seems kind of sad that they are doing this. It's too bad they can't use them as more of a money maker in a museum.

PR stunt of no particular value, imo. people do unusual things that they usually regret during trying times.

GM is thinning their collection but at this point they're still retaining their AAA collectibles (at least I hope so). It's a sad sign of the times none-the-less.

Maybe this was required as part of the bailout. This will raise some cash to pay back some of the loan.
