Default ding ding ding ding...wtf?

So, for no reason at all this happened today:

i decited to take the vette out for a short run to the store. uncovered it....... the transmitter was in my levi's watch pocket as always, I opened the drivers door..and the ding ding ding chime sounded... got in, close the door, it stopped, started it ..ran my errand. hit the the lock button on the door when i got out at the store... came back to the car...same thing when i opened the door...

got home. turned the car off (held the start button to off for 2 seconds like I always do.. opened the door, it was fine. covered the car..this time i didnt hit the lock button on the door, waited till i got in the house and used the transmitter to lock...pushed twice, got the horn honk.

wondering if its going to "ding ding ding" again when i go to drive it again.

these cars have a mind of their own or what? any ideas?

Sometimes I inadvertently press the ACC side of the "off" button by mistake. That's one thing that give you the "ding".

LOL.. im not going to worry about it.. just curious.

I did find out about holding the start/stop button down for 2 seconds when you kill the motor... for a while, if i just hit it quick, the motor stopped,... i opened the door and got the 'ding ding ding'..but holding down for those 2 seconds stopped that...

maybe im dingy.........

My car never "dings". And it automatically locks about 10 seconds after I close the door and walk away. It honks goodbye to let me know it is locked. Walking up to the car with the fob and both doors are unlocked (sorta, you have to grab the door). But I never use the fob to lock/unlock. And when I use the term "lock/unlock" it really means the car will let you in if you have the fob and the computer agrees.

I'm pretty certain all these settings can be changed. Check your manual.

I set the locking system for the horn to sound when the doors lock automatically. That way i don't have to wonder if the car is locked or worry about pressing that darn panic button

Mine sometimes does the same thing, sometimes not. No idea why.

It's supposed to mean that you left it in accessory mode, but I didn't.

Default Round 1

Maybe the "ding ding ding" is the start of the first round for when someone gets too close when parking so far away. I had read your thread from the other day, at least the dinging will give a warning to whomever is about to get knocked silly.

I just checked mine and it dings if on ACC so I dunno....I tried interior lights etc...but no ding.

I never touch my fob...Mine is set to lock automatically...the only thing there is when I fill up I leave the car door open...and when I get back in I get the three horn beeps cause it thinks the fob is in there...

Do you have the preference set for 3 honks if the car thinks the fob is left inside???if not it may have sensed the fob in car when it tried to lock car and set alarm. If so you would have returned to the car unlocked no alarm set and chimes as soon as you opened the door...and you would not know being the fob left in car preference is set to silent.....Just a guess here.

Hope this helps!!!PS it happens to me all the time especially when I'm at the hatch area getting something out before I walk away from the car!!! GOOD LUCK

Ron

it's so weird, these cars. I just read something about a month ago: look at the fob. Is it Fob 1 or Fob 2? apparently Fob 2 goes thru a slightly different recognition system. I think.

I switched from using 2 to 1; end of a lot of honking, beeping, chiming, etc. For how long, I don't know. Next thing is, it'll start saying, Hello Bill!

Note: btw, the number of each fob is a very small, raised number on the bottom of the fob.
