Question for those using the Sears Platinum Battery
Just spoke with the local Sears Auto Center about getting a Die-Hard Platinum series battery for my '06. I'm tired of keeping my fingers crossed that the OEM Delco will start the car after sitting a week. The rep stated that he didn't list a direct replacement for the car in the Platinum series. He was showing the Die-Hard "International" as being the direct "recommended" replacement and that the Platinum series batteries were all slightly larger than the OEM battery in size.
I know that several of you have mentioned having this battery in your cars in some of the battery threads. What group number or Sears Platinum numbered-battery are you using? I noticed they use P-1 to P-5 for their group number cross-reference. Thanks!

Thanks! I'll take this info down to Sears. They wanted to measure the existing battery and the tray and hold down before they would consider selling me one. They weren't showing any listing for the 05-07 either.

c6vette, is your Die-Hard also a P-3 model like 04VaVette metioned in his post?
I don't mind the extra weight if it's a battery that I can depend on to turn over the motor after sitting a week. I'm not the original owner of my car. I bought it used in March of last year, and it only had 970 miles on it after almost 2 years. I'm guessing it sat a lot and I don't think it did the OEM Delco battery much good sitting like that. Hard to say how many times it may have run down in that time and needed to be jumped if it wasn't on a battery tender.

I don't know if it is a good idea to buy a Platinum since there are opposing views that an AutoZone, Advance or ACDelco may be just as good. But obviously, in some of our Corvettes, the batteries just get eaten up.
I think a worthy alternative, as investigated (and now used extensively) by cthusker is the Odyssey battery available at jegs and summit racing as well as other places. However, it's hard to beat the number of Sears stores for a Platinum.
If you use a battery maintainer (for when you're not using the car continually) and have a decent battery, I would hope that five years or more is within reason. We will see since my OE battery may be replaced sometime before it expires.

Not sure what’s actually needed here, but in general it’s not good practice to cross any electric wires/cables over each other. If they touch, vibration can chafe the insulation to the point where there’s a short. Particularly with a battery a short could be exciting.

I use an optima in my car. I have had optima batteries before and never had a problem. The yellow top claims it can be completly drained without and damage to the battery. There is not a optima listed for 06-07 just call them they will get you the right one.

where would someone find these Optima batteries? Are they available at any local stores like Advanced Auto or Auto Zone? Also, has anyone ever tried Interstate Batteries? My 05 still has the OEM battery and I'm just preparing...especially since I only start her up once a week or so..I know it's just a matter of time.

Geez, I just bought the Autozone Duralast Gold (3 yr replacement)for $98 and I thought that was crazy.
