Default Chiago Chevrolet Dealers

Hey:
What happened to Peoples Pontiac ? I bought my 65 GTO there !
I think it was next door to Z Frank Chevrolet on N Western Ave ?
What happened to Hoskins Chevrolet on Irving Park Rd and Milwaukee Ave ? I used to work there in 66 67 ?
AH the good old days , Nickey Chev , Mr Norm's , Clark Weber on WLS , The Circus ( ? ) drive in on North Ave , around 1965, where they took a dragster out and made a pass and the packed up and left before the cops came ! !

Grew up on Chicago's South Side in the 1950-1960's time. Remember both Z Frank and Nickey (and MR NORM ) Also Rt 30 Dragstrip.......just south of Gary.

Frank always advertised on WLS radio..............which was our major rock and roll station back then. People from NY and Pennsylvania (and other far away states) used to tune in to WLS late at night when the air was clear. We had great DJs and awesome music.

Good times back then.

Larry

Do you remember Bus's Drive-in on 95th off Cicero? How about Quality Chevy on 94th and Cicero, Oak Lawn?

Imagine Dick Biondi is dead.

For those that are interested and knowing why the Chicago dealership was called Z Frank is the owner's name was zollie Frank. Although I could never deal with those people I bought a 1972 Monte Carlo for $25 he wouldn't budge so I bought from Nickey Chevrolet. Lol. True story

It's a good place to be from! Best food I've ever had, but only two nice weather weeks a year. One in the spring and one in the fall.

Although I got out your way frequently, I lived further East, so our crusing was around Roseland (95-128th Michigan Avenue), Dolton, Riverdale, Harvey, Chicago Heights.

Had aunts and uncles and a grandmother that lived in Oak Lawn, so I got up there a few times a year....but really didn't know all the hangouts. Western Avenue was just about the western edge to our crusing limit.

Used to take many dates to Melody Lane on 87th just off Cicero after a movie if I had enough $$. You should remember it. Also the Sheridan Drive-in on Harlem.

Well, Biondi is still alive and well at 83. Lujack passed away in 2013. John "Records" Landecker just retired and, Bob Sirott is now at WGN. Who can ever forget Animal Stories ........

Wow, Sheridan Drive-in. Had a few memories from that place! Later on early 70s, All of my Biker buddies lived in and around Harvey and Chicago Heights. Used to ride out that way all the time, and poker runs in Northern Indiana.

As a kid in the 50/60s I too remember Riverview. The place every kid wanted to go, that and Brookfield Zoo.

How about Kidieland amusement park at North ave. and First ave. in Melrose Park? Alot of us kids in the western burbs would go there. Also, Skips drive in was just east of there, (next to the Polk Bros. warehouse-another defunct icon around Chicago) and as you cruised out of Skips, you would pair up with whoever was behind you and drag down North ave. as a makeshift quarter mile was set up. Some nights, people would line up along North ave. and watch....til the cops came and everyone would scatter!

I've been to Skips. We didn't get there often BC too far to drive from the South side. We did all of our drag racing at 1 am out in the forest preserves (maple lake). Got busted out there one night drag racing a Dodge 440 with my 442.

What a time. The trend at the time was everyone wanted to raise their cars instead of lowering them. I remember a couple of cars (one GTO and one Corvette) that went with front straight axles.

Being from the north shore, we used to race out on St Mary's Rd. Lake County did not have the manpower to patrol it consistently.
