Default GT1 Edition Announced

January 26, 2009
GT1 CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION ANNOUNCED FOR 2009
Breaking News – Members, Tom Hill, Quality Engineering Manager of the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, announced on Saturday night, January 24, 2009 to the crowd present at the NCRS Awards Banquet in Kissimmee, Florida that a GT1 Championship Edition would be built starting this Spring.
The 2009 GT1 Championship Edition would be available in Coupe, Convertible and Z06 models. They will include your choice of 45U Velocity Yellow or 41U Black exterior paint with C6.R graphics inspired by our victorious Pratt & Miller Racing Team. This striping package will have a familiar “JAKE” theme running through the Black and Silver design. A very unique feature will include graphics that will have the driver’s names on the roof just like the C6.R has. Of course the Championships that the C6.R has won will be displayed on a lower door script graphic. The uniqueness continues with Black headlamps on the Velocity Yellow models including Genuine Corvette Accessories use on the body with colored door handles and a carbon patterned engine cover.

All models will include the ZR1 full width spoiler in body color, Q9V Forged Chrome Wheels (export models will only have QG7 Polished Wheels), Z51 Performance Package and NPP Performance Exhaust for Coupe and Convertible. Each will receive a distinctive yellow windshield banner for installation.

All models will have exclusive GT1 embroidery on the seats and console lid. Ebony 4LT (Coupe and Convertible) and 3LZ (Z06) interiors and shifter will be accentuated with yellow stitching. Included will be a Special Console Trim Plate with specific VIN sequencing and a Certificate of Authenticity.

Options reportedly available will include C2L Dual Roof Panels for the Coupe, U3U Navigation on all models, and MX0 6-speed paddle shift automatic on Coupe and Convertible.

Our best guess at prices at release time are:

Coupe $65,500

Convertible $72,000

Z06 $86,500

Expect limited production.

Boy, here we go again. I am happy for those who want a stripe package with their Z51 package...........but 65K???
I think we all want a REAL performance Corvette at a basic price....c'mon Gran Sport!!!!....but now I am worried for that one too....geez GM...you've got to better than this if you are going to get more money from us or Congress.....and I always try to be the positive one on the forum....I just find myself amazed and a little sad at the last two "specials" GM has offered on our beloved car.....almost a joke on us....

I'm certain there will be a market for the option. They had no problem selling the special edition Will Cooksey signed.

Yes, but that one had a color never before seen on the ZO6 (and a beautiful one at that) and very unique wheels (at the time)....and NO STRIPES!!........c'mon ---- you can't compare a classy car like the Cooksey edition to what's above....???

I think we're way past that point...the Ron Fellows Edition Z06, the 427 Edition Z06, Pace Car editions, Competition Sport Edition.....

I suppose there's a limited market for these types of purely cosmetic 'special' edition Corvette's but without any significant performance enhancements, I just see these as pure marketing hype. IMO calling a graphics package, wheels and embroidered seats a "special" edition Corvette doesn't do anything to enhance the brand.

I realize resources won't permit it at the moment but I'd love to see Corvette come out with something similar to what Dodge did with their ACR version Viper.

Who cares if that is what they have to do to get them out the door. Keep production up any way they can. Need to keep the line alive.

Maybe Carroll Shelby will sign it too.
Coming soon are the Shelby C6, the Steeda C6, the Roush C6, and the Saleen C6.
