Default Lifetime warrany for cars

hey guys I just found this...is this possible???

The first of its kind to be offered by any automaker. Ever. Because with this warranty, you're covered, and it lasts for as long as you own your vehicle. A Lifetime warranty provides worry-free ownership for new Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge owners.

so if you own the car for 50 years then the warranty would cover everything? too good to be true?

heard that the warranty is from a seperate company so if chrysler goes down the warranty is still good...

Reread the information. Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. It does not cover everything.

I'm sure the folks here would love to hear about it, though.

A warranty is only as good as the company that provides it. If Chrysler goes under....so does your warranty.

I just spoke to a rep at the company about this and ther are a lot of options...You can opt to purchase powertrain or bumber to bumber coverage...I priced it on my Daily driver, 06 grand cherokee with 35k miles...$1200 for powertrain lifetime and $2400 for bumber to bumer lifetime...I am seriously considering once i get some info on the insurer backing these, as they are offred by Chrysler.

I think its just wishful thinking to be honest. Somewhere down the road you would be putting in a claim to have something fixed and the service manager comes out to talk to you and it goes something like this:

"We do not have complete records of you having ALL the recommended service and maintenance completed at the proper intervals. Therefore, your claim for warranty coverage is denied".

Too me, if Chevrolet offered a lifetime warranty for a couple thousand extra and they add in dealer servicing, I would do it in a flash. With the understanding that interior trim/accessories may not be available in the future, I wouldn't expect a full blow bumper to bumper coverage, but it would be nice if it was possible. In order for them to do just that, they would have to warehouse replacements for each and every part on each car/customer that signed up for it. The costs to GM would be staggering....then again, if the cost paid by the consumer offset that cost enough to make it worth it, it wouldn't be so bad.

I asked that question and was told that if there is obvious abuse or neglect, you would have a problem, but in any other situation you would not need to provide full documentation for the life of the vehicle. I would deffinatley require that they give me something in writing before forking over the cash though

Here is their out, taken straight off of Chrysler.com FAQ about the Lifetime Warranty:

In order to maintain the Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty, you must have a powertrain inspection performed by an authorized Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge dealer once every 5 years. This inspection, performed at no charge, must be made within 60 days of each 5-year anniversary of the warranty start date of the vehicle. It is your responsibility to perform preventative maintenance on your vehicle. You’re strongly encouraged to follow the instructions contained in the Scheduled Maintenance Service guidelines in your Owner’s Manual.

How many people are going to remember this? Plus it's only a 60 day window or the lifetime part is void. I'll bet 80% of the people who own them will forget to take them in during this 60 day window. Not to mention most people don't own cars that long anyway. They knew what they were doing, on this at least.

Who is backing the insurance/service policy.. Sounds like something that can easily go bankrupt, out of business, etc... I would look into the parent company of the policy... Chrysler might not be there to help

Sounds like a fair warranty with fair requirements to me.

Rats! When I read that I was going to tell my wife and run down and get the 09 Ram Pickup and trade in the 07. Then, I read the fine print--not Ram trucks!!

Oh well I have never keep a vehicle longer that three years anyway.

It's a powertrain warranty only. And I don't believe that it's transferable. Not sure what happens to the warranty if they go out of business.

As I said earlier for those who didn't read all posts, there are three options, powertrain only, added options which includes ac, power windows doors, etc brake systems...and then there is a bumber to bumber option...go to the website and look in the tool bar on the left...you can click on all of the options and see whats covered.
