Default 15 Cars

Hey Fam
I'm posting this thread because as I was walking around the house today I picked up a Motor Trend magazine from the 2009 International Auto show I was at a few weeks ago here in Baltimore and as I was flipping through the magazine it actually list the majority of common car brands price, engine size and 0-60 time and while reviewing it i noticed their are only about 15 cars that are actually faster than the base C6, which is pretty darn good when you start adding up the figures. Now of course their are others out there the Saleen S7, Zonda, McLaren, Koensseigg, etc but look at how much they cost and a procharger or turbo charger can put you right there with the so called best of the best. Oh, the base Corvette is listed at 46,000.00 and has a 0-60 time of 4.1/4.3 seconds in this magazine

Aston Martin DBS $266,150.00, 0-60 4.3
Audi R8 $111,090.00, 0-60 4.1
Cadillac STS-V supercharged $62,775.00, 0-60 4.3
Chevrolet Corvette ZR1/Z06 $105,000.00/77,000.00, 0-60 3.5/3.7
Dodge Viper ACR $89,000.00, 0-60 3.7
Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano $250,000.00, 0-60 3.2
Ferrari California $210,000.00, 0-60 3.2
Ferrari F-430 $170,000.00, 0-60 3.5
Lamborghini Gallardo $198,000.00, 0-60 3.6
Lamborghini Murcielago $354,000.00, 0-60 3-4
Lotus Exige S 240 $66,365, 0-60 4.0
Mercedes SLR McLaren $501,000.00, 0-60 3.6
Nissan GT-R $70,475.00 0-60, 3.2
Porsche 911 GT2 $198,000.00, 0-60 3.4
Tesla Roadster $109,000.00, 0-60 4.0

"Fast" (0-60) was relatively far down my list when I picked Corvettes to drive.

Peace, out.

As been stated many times the Corvette is one of the best you can get for the bucks.

That is quite a list. The Corvette once again shows the world what and icredible machine it is for the money. And it is a he** of a lot better looking than many of those very expensive cars. Especially the bland and almost ugly GTR and the almost always ugly styling of the Porsche cars.

NSN, I have to agree especially when it comes to looks I've had the guys at the Ferrari dealership say the C6 is better looking than the F-430, and I had the owner of an Aston Martin dealership call the C6 the missing link he said that car is way too fast and too pretty to be a 50,000.00 car it should be at least 100,000.00 so everyone can compete fairly, I told him thank you.

What has always been amazing to me is the Corvette has some very serious performance and does it all with a pushrod, 2 valve per cylinder engine - something you don't necessarily equate to being state of the art performance today. Some of these other cars have more valves than the pipe organ in St. Peters basilica in Rome.

Just goes to show that all that extra monkey motion ain't worth spit. Making power is simple. Flow more air/fuel and you make more power. You can use a lot of exotic monkey motion in a small displacement twisted to insanely high RPM, or you can use a dead simple large displacement engine at a modest RPM. I prefer the latter. Simple, robust, cheap.
