How much does a roof panel weigh?
Serioiusly looking to move up from C4 to C6. I looked through past threads, but couldn't find the answer to this one. How much does a roof panel (body color) weigh? Is it simple for one regular person to handle off and on, or is it basically a two person deal? Thanks

Both roofs are a one person deal once you get use to it. Be careful in strong winds though as they make pretty good sails as do your doors.
Let me know if you need the weight of the painted top. Mine is in my computer room.

You can easily remove the panel by yourself. When you do it the first time it may feel a bit awkward lifting it but it isn't heavy at all.

Hey, I was born and raised in Philly. Could you weigh your panel for me. I just had back surgery a few weeks ago and lifting alot of weight is a problem...

C6 transparent 20.22 lbs.
C6 painted SMC 24.2 lbs (new style replacement roof)
C6 painted Polycarbonate 20.90 lbs. (old style roof)
I wouldn't call it a "simple" one person affair if you are small or average in stature. It is however doable once you get used to the weight and size and how to handle the panel.

We have a C4 ('95) & C6 ('07). The C4 glass panel is BY FAR heavier than the C6. I haven't weighed the two but my educated guess says the C6 is half the weight of the C4's.
Hope my subjective opinion is useful

20# to 24#, depending on which roof you're talking about.
The early (in the MY) body-colored tops and the transparent tops weigh about 20#. The newer SMC tops weigh about 24#.
Taking the top off is easier than putting one back on by yourself if you have short arms.

It's really best to keep your short arm out of the way.

I have a bad back and the panel is no problem for me. It is a very good idea to have your passenger get out of the car anyway though.

Depending on your need, you might also look into a lightweight panel called a Carbrella. I live in Southern California and the Carbrella is a great convenience for me (and a benefit to the titanium plate implanted in my wrist). You can't drive with it on the car but it will keep most of the dust and dirt of the cabin when the car is parked. If I lived in Columbus, I would probably still get good use from it in Spring, Summer and Fall.

GM must have spent a lot of money on developing the removeable roof. It has a magnesium frame and polycarbonate skin. Also, when it's on, it's on solid....for creaking noise resulting from body flexing.

It is not so much heavy as simply very awkward to remove initially.
Like everything...you have to figure out a procedure then practice it so that it becomes easier.
Just pulling it straight up will strain your back.
